Director of Teacher Ed

Nothing new to report.

Director of Field Experience

Three candidates are coming to campus March 23-25. Presentations will be from 2-3 in Targhee on each of those three days.

An itinerary is forthcoming.

Meeting Schedule

On April 10, we will have Danielson training, so meetings will be combined. Elementary, Secondary, and Ed Core will be combined. Danielson will be from 1:30-4:30. Those in CdA can come down via ride-sharing and C&I will cover travel.

Food will be provided.

Focus for the Future

Thanks to everyone who contributed. A report has been completed and sent to the Provost; it is attached to the agenda.

University Regional Accreditation System

Northwest Commission will be here April 20-23. We don’t have any information about what would be required of us, if anything.

Annual assessment will be a big part of this.

Area for Improvement

We have one AFI from NCATE – diversity. This needs to be addressed. The CAEP standards are different than NCATE, so this will be addressed more frequently than in the past.

Needs to be systematic, and beyond what we were doing at the NCATE review.

This is on a continuous improvement model.

Annual reports are due April 15. They will be reviewed by two evaluators each year.

Math/Science/Social Science/Technology block go to Lapwai and teach lessons.

The grant Ingrid got for an alternative spring break -- eight EDCI 302 students are working with TRIO Upward Bound for an alternative spring break. Ingrid will share more information with Dan.

Raymond mentioned Teach Live again, with Cassidy at the meeting. Cassidy can provide Dan with more information.

Andrea speaks to the CAMP students and why they should be education majors.

Andrea encourages study abroad.

Online Assessment System

The assessment system is now open. Now is the time to start implementing last fall’s goals and gathering data.

Program Coordinators will coordinate this activity for each program.

Paul pulled up the system online as a reminder.

Sandy volunteered to do a focus group with elementary ed students.

Diane did it in CdA last year and would be happy to do it again this year.

Ingrid volunteered to do a focus group with secondary ed students.

Dan is the contact for Praxis data.

This all needs to be done before the end of this academic year. We will analyze it in the fall and populate the assessment system.

Minutes are an artifact that are uploaded to the system as well, showing the discussions and analysis of said data.

Paul asked about the availability of graduating senior surveys. Dan is getting mixed messages about this.

Dan will have a report on this in April.

Summer Availability

Paul’s summer availability is attached to the agenda. It will be limited.

Scholarship Productivity

Kudos to faculty! Paul shared results (attached to the agenda). Productivity is up.

Revision of Tenure and Promotion Guidelines

The committee has been meeting periodically. They are having an all-day retreat next Thursday to pull together a draft sometime this spring.

Would it make sense to have a rolling average for scholarship productivity? This is being discussed.

Need Instructors

The list of instructors needed is attached to the agenda.

Shannon would be willing to talk about teaching EDCI 301 as an overload.

Syndie is moving to Boise. Her proposal is to move EDCI 322 online, or potentially a hybrid, possibly utilizing the Doceo Center and occasional visits to Moscow.

Otherwise someone else needs to teach it in-load, overload, or special hire.

EDCI 327 in Moscow. Paul has been in contact with Phillip Anthony-Stevens in Math. That has not been solidified.

EDCI 466 online. Julie Magelky has taken a position at LCSC so is no longer available.

iSEM

We need instructors for fall. Information about iSEMs is attached to the agenda.

We must produce 60 seats each semester; currently we have 30. Contact Paul if you are interested ASAP.

Summer and Fall Schedule

Check the schedule to make sure it is correct.

PEP 350 for Fall and Spring

There isn’t support for offering PEP 350 online. There is support for hybrid in Movement Sciences.

Large discussion ensued. This is problematic if the requirement of taking it with a block stays in place. Right now it always goes in the math block because that’s the only time it fits. However, part of the discussion was based on a misinterpretation of the memo. The course will in fact be taught both fall (hybrid) and spring (face-to-face).

Paul and Philip Scruggs have agreed that this needs to take place at a time that does not conflict with the block times.

CdA is happy about this. Moscow, not so much.

The room in CdA needs to have good wifi, though. Philip has been in touch with Angie Sowers for a room.

Cert + M.Ed.

Paul summarized Brant’s report at the Advanced Studies meeting. He’s been working with Andrea and Paul, and has been in communication with several students. He’s been working with the Registrar’s Office to make everything work. Once we get the first cohort going, we’ll be good. Potential students are being asked to pull everything together before filling out and paying for the application. He has talked to a great mix of potential students.

The curriculum will be put in the UI degree audit system.

They’ll take our Ed Core. We will probably need to add a classroom management course as an EDCI 504.

The goal is a cohort of at least 9, which appears to be achievable.

Teacher Education Applications

Andrea has the teacher ed applications for review by faculty. Extra time has been allotted from this meeting for this to be accomplished.

We are down by about 22%.

Other Business

None.

Next Meeting

The times are special, and will include the Danielson training.

Meeting adjourned at 12:44 p.m.
