What am I studying?
In this unit you are studying the novel “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding.
What will I be learning?
This is a literature unit and you will be learning to analyse characters, themes and language. You will be learning to write about the way an author creates effects in a text and how these affect the audience.
What will I be assessed on?
You will be assessed regularly on the way you are able to:

· Analyse effects created. (AO2)

The final summative assessment will be an extract and whole text based essay :

What am I studying?
You will be studying a range of poems across time, written about revenge and strong feelings.
What will I be learning?
This is a literature unit and you will be learning to analyse poetry. You will be learning to write about the way a poet creates effects in a text, through language, structure and form.
What will I be assessed on?
You will be assessed regularly on the way you are able to:
· Write about the text using quotes (AO1)
· Analyse effects created. (AO2)
· Link texts to the time they were written (AO3)
· The way you are able to compare texts (AO3)
The final summative assessment will be a comparative essay:
Compare how strong feelings are presented in a poem by Duffy and a poem by Browning.

What am I studying?
You will be studying a play called “Blood Brothers” by Willy Russell
What will I be learning?
This is a literature unit and you will be learning to analyse characters, themes and language and the way play scripts are written. You will be learning to write about the way a playwright creates effects in a play and how these affect the audience.
What will I be assessed on?
You will be assessed regularly on the way you are able to:

· Analyse effects created. (AO2)

The final summative assessment will be an extract based essay:
Starting with this extract, explain how Russell presents the character of Mrs Johnstone.
Write about:
• How Russell presents Mrs Johnstone in this extract
• How Russell presents Mrs Johnstone in the play as a whole.
What can I do to make sure I do well?
You need to read and understand the play and the language used by Russell, researching these at home if you are unsure. You should complete the skills based homework set on SAM learning and also have the option of completing the extension homework tasks from the grid to help deepen your understanding. VIVOs are awarded for the completion of each extra task and at the end of the year there will be certificates for those completing the most additional homework tasks.
