98th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE (2013 Session)

On behalf of State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez, attached please find a summary of those laws (Public Acts) passed during the first year of the 98th General Assembly (2013) that are applicable to the work that we do in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. The Public Acts are organized chronologically by relevant Act and section numbers.

Enclosed are both new Acts and existing statutes with amendments. Many of these Acts are currently effective and a majority of others have an effective date of January 1, 2014. Not all laws passed this session are included in the summary, and updates will follow as necessary. Unless the Public Act creates a completely new section, which we have included here in its entirety, please use this summary only as a supplemental aid to your current statutes. This summary is current as of October 18, 2013.

Access to the full text of these Public Acts can be found at www.ilga.gov. Once at the homepage, click on “Public Acts” located beneath the title “Legislation & Laws.” You will then be given several listings by Public Act number, on which you can click the specific Act that you are researching. You can also access these Public Acts by using the Bill number (ie. HB520) in the “Search by Number” box on the left side of the homepage.

If you are unable to locate the information that you require, or if you need further assistance, please contact the Legislative Unit at 312-603-8712 (John P. Carroll), or 312-603-1845 (Monica-Kaye Gamble & Brandon Nemec).

Very truly yours,

John P. Carroll Monica Kaye Gamble Brandon Nemec
