The Virginia LGBTQ Community Resource and Referral Guide / Spring
2013
Welcome to the first edition of the EVEF Anti-Violence Project Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Resource Guide. This guide was created to serve as a resource for people working with LGBTQ Virginians who might not be aware of the extent of community based resources in their areas. / Prepared by: The Equality Virginia Education Fund Anti-Violence Project

Introduction

Welcome to the first edition of the EVEF Anti-Violence Project LGBTQ

Resource Guide. This guide was created to serve as a resource for people

working with LGBTQ Virginians who might not be aware of the extent of

community based resources in their areas.

While we aspire to create a resource guide that will provide appropriate

referrals for LGBTQ survivors of violence, at this time we have simply

compiled a list of organizations and individuals experienced in working with

LGBTQ communities. These organizations and individuals may not have

extensive experience working with survivors of violence, but offer a direct

link to other services that LGBTQ individuals might be looking for.

In future editions, we will offer a set of criteria for organizations regarding

their capacity to serve LGBTQ survivors of sexual violence, intimate partner

violence, and hate-based violence in order to be included in the resource

guide. Some of the initial criteria might include inclusive organizational

policies, on-going staff training, collaborative efforts in local communities,

etc. If you or your organization are interested in being included in future

editions of the resource guide, please contact the Anti-Violence Project for

more information.

If you have experienced or are offering support to someone who has

experienced sexual violence or intimate partner violence and are in need of

services, please refer to the Virginia Sexual Assault and Family Violence

Hotline or the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance website

for up to date information on local community sexual violence and intimate

partner violence resources.

While all of these resources are accurate at the time of publication, they are

subject to change at any time. Please note that every attempt has been

made to ensure that the resources listed in this guide are familiar with the

often unique concerns facing LGBTQ individuals. However, due to staff

turnover and other unforeseeable organizational shifts, the ability of each of

these organizations to act as a resource for LGBTQ people might change.

Should you have any questions regarding the efficacy of any of these

resources or wish to report discriminatory or inappropriate actions, please

call the Anti-Violence Project at 804.925.8287.

A Note on Our Legal Referrals:

EV is not a law firm, has no staff attorneys, does not represent clients, and

does not provide legal advice. We simply offer a list of attorneys who are

willing to receive referrals from individuals who have contacted us. Any

terms for taking a case or providing legal advice, including fees, are to be

worked out between the individual seeking a referral and the attorney to

whom they are referred. The attorneys presented in this guide responded to

queries that they have experience with family violence law and are

interested in working with LGBTQ clients seeking assistance in the criminal

justice system of Virginia.

This project was supported by the Department of Criminal Justice Services Grant 07-A5313DV07 and 08-

B5313DV08 from funds made available through the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Victim Fund.

The opinions, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed are those of the authors and do not

necessarily reflect the views of DCJS.
