Role Title:Chairman
Position Summary
The key leadership role for the Club, ensuring that all Committee members fulfill their obligations whilst enabling efficient and effective communications. Represents the Club with external bodies and helps set the future vision / strategy to allow the Club to develop.
Key tasks & responsibilities:
- Represents the Club with external bodies.
- In conjunction with the Committee, set the vision and strategic goals of the Club.
- Ensure that all Officers of the Committee are performing to the expectations of the Committee.
- Comply with the Club Constitution.
- Ensure that the rest of the Club complies with the constitution and any external rules and procedures.
- Chair the monthly Committee meetings.
- Set the monthly Committee meeting agenda and agree the minutes.
- Chair the Club Annual General Meeting and prepare/deliver the Chairman’s report.
- Act as an approved signatory on the Club bank accounts.
Key skills & abilities:
- Excellent leadership skills/experience with the tenacity and confidence to co-ordinate Club members.
- Able to delegate tasks with clarity and monitor performance.
- Acts as a role model for the Club.
- An assertive, diplomatic and credible communicator to build positive Club and public relationships.

Role Profile
Role Title:Secretaries (Male and Female)
Position Summary:
Jointly responsible for all internal and external communications necessary for the smooth running of the Club. Keeps accurate, auditable records and notifies the Committee of communications as necessary.
Key tasks & responsibilities (These are joint responsibilities, which secretary carries them out is to be agreed between the secretaries):
- Meet as soon as possible after the AGM to share out the tasks below.
- Own the Club Constitution and amend as instructed by the Committee / AGM.
- Comply with the Club Constitution.
- Arrange, attend and minute the monthly Club Committee meeting.
- Issue the agenda for the Committee meeting at least 2 days prior.
- Issue minutes from the Committee meeting within 10 days.
- Responds, or deals with, communications within 3 weeks of receipt.
- Arrange, attend and minute the Club Annual General Meeting.
- Prepare and deliver the Secretary’s report at the Club AGM.
- Receive any Club communication and relay to other Club members as appropriate.
- Arrange the Club annual dinner.
- Act as an approved signatory on the Club bank accounts.
- Responsible for transfer/registration of new players.
- Ensure that all Captains have a copy of the league handbook and current hockey rules.

- Literate with at least English GCSE grade B or above (or equivalent)

Role Profile
Role Title:Treasurer
Position Summary
Responsible for all monetary transactions necessary for the smooth running of the Club. Keeps accurate, auditable records and notifies the Committee of current Club financial performance.
Key tasks & responsibilities:
- Comply with the Club Constitution.
- Receive match sheets and deposit cheques and cash into Club bank accounts as necessary.
- Sign (with counter signature) and issue Club cheques to cover Club expenses.
- Keep auditable account records for all income and expenses.
- Produce monthly accounts.
- Act as an approved signatory on the Club bank accounts.
- Maintain the bank account statements.
- Maintain the bank account mandate.
- Attend the monthly Committee meeting.
- Attend the AGM and present the annual accounts.
- Ensure that the Club does not make a loss during any one financial year, and notifies the Committee of the current financial performance of the Club on a regular basis.
- Ensure that all Captains make payments in a timely manner.
- Maintain a list of debtors and make available to the Captains and Committee as appropriate.
- Audit any invoices to ensure that they are fair and reasonable.
- Ensure that invoices and Club expenses are paid within 3 weeks of receipt.
- Keep financial history for 6 years.

- Numerate with at least Mathematics GCSE grade B or above. (or equivalent)

Role Profile
Role Title:Team Captain
Position Summary
Responsible for the management and leadership of the Team and acts as the communications portal with the rest of the Club and any external bodies. Able to develop Players in accordance with Individual, Team and Club requirements.
Key tasks & responsibilities:
- Comply with the Club Constitution.
- Agree Team selection with Vice Captain and other team Captains.
- Notify Team members of selection, together with the time and place of the meet for the match.
- Arrange the umpires for home matches.
- Notify providers of after match food of the requirements and timing.
- In the event of bad weather for home games, visit the pitch, or contact the pitch owners, to check viability. In the event of cancellation notify the Match Secretary, Opposition, Umpires and own players.
- Prepare a team sheet for league matches and give to the umpires before the match.
- In consultation with other members of the Team, agree positions and match tactics.
- Carryout pre match warm up.
- Provide warm-up and match balls.
- Carryout a pre match team talk.
- Have a first aid kit available at pitch side.
- Greet the umpires and opposition captain.
- Toss up before the match and agree ball possession and ends.
- Wear a Captain’s armband and ensure that all Players are correctly attired.
- Role model good behaviour and be responsible for the behaviour of all Players.
- Arrange for substitutions to take place as required during the match.
- Provide replacement match balls as required.
- Motivate the Players and reorganise formation/tactics as the match dictates.
- Carryout a half time team talk.
- At the end of the game, lead 3 cheers for the Opposition (tradition states home team goes first)
- Irrespective of the result, shake the hands of both Umpires and Opposition players.
- Lead the post match warm down and team talk. Concentrate on the positive aspects of the Team performance and recognise good personal performances.
- Make sure that the Opposition Captain and Umpires know where the changing facilities are located and the after match eating/drinking arrangements.
- Ensure that the league sheets are signed and retained for home matches.
- Entertain the Opposition in the bar and socialise with the Umpires.
- Encourage as many of own side to come back after the match – creates a positive Team atmosphere.
- Ensure that the Opposition and Umpires and fed – offer the Umpires a drink.
- For home league matches, phone in the result to Russell’s before 16:00 on day of the match.
- Collect match fees and complete the match fee form.
- Notify Players of next match arrangements and obtain provisional Team availability.
- Say goodbye to the Opposition and Umpires when they leave – it is bad protocol to leave before they do.
- Send the completed league match sheets in SAE to the league secretary by Sunday.
- For the First team, complete the Umpires assessment form and send to Umpires league secretary.
- For away matches, obtain the directions of the Opposition’s pitch (e.g. Oppositions web site, handbook etc.) and provide copies for all drivers.
- For away matches, ensure that there are enough drivers available to get the whole Team to and back from the match.
- Collect the annual membership subscriptions.
- Attend the monthly Committee meetings.
- Support training sessions and encourage Team members to attend.
- Carry out Team player of the season selection and present the trophy at the annual dinner.
- Attend the annual dinner and give a “humorous” Team season report.
- Attend the Annual General Meeting and give a “factual” Team season report.
- Co-ordinate with other Captains to progress Players up and down the Club as performances dictate.
- Give completed match sheets and cash/cheques to the Treasurer on a monthly basis.
- Be responsible for the welfare of junior players.
- Communicate with the league secretary as necessary.

Role Title:Player
Position Summary
Committed, reliable and competent hockey player who supports the Team and Club to achieve.
Key tasks & responsibilities:
- To make self available for as many matches as possible throughout the season.
- Attend and support Club training.
- Takes personal responsibility for own fitness necessary for the level of hockey played.
- Wear correct attire for matches, including a numbered shirt for league matches.
- Make captain aware of availability and notify any changes as soon as practicable.
- In the event of bad weather, contact the captain to check if the game is still on.
- Turn up to matches at the agreed time.
- Listen to and respect the decisions of the captain and the umpires.
- After the match, participate in 3 cheers and shake the hands of the umpires and opposition.
- Comply with the Club’s rules of conduct and good behaviour before, after and during the match.
- Go to the bar after the match and socialise with the umpires and opposition.
- Pay match fees and annual subscriptions promptly.
- Support Club functions and social events.

A senior member of the Club with responsibility to support the Chairman and the Committee, especially at official events.

Role Profile
Role Title:Fixtures Secretary
Position Summary
Arranges and notifies all fixtures for the Club in liaison with the Leagues and other Clubs.
Key tasks & responsibilities:
- Comply with the Club Constitution.
- Attends Committee meetings as required.
- Attends the Club Annual General Meeting
- Produces an annual list of Club fixtures for all teams.
- So far as is reasonably practicable ensure that all teams have a fixture every week.
- Notifies the opposition team of the location and times of home matches.
- Notify the Club captains of the location and times of Away matches.
- Notifies the Away teams of any cancellations
- Books the Astro Turf for home matches.
- Keeps a log of any cancellations and works with the Treasurer to ensure invoices are accurate.
