Queer Youth Community Organizing Coordinator at Peace for the Streets by Kids from the Streets
Peace for the Streets by Kids from the Streets (PSKS) exists to support homeless and at-risk youth and young adults to become empowered to lead positive and self-sufficient lives. Our philosophy and practice of inclusion has allowed us to develop an accessible and safe space to engage young people who are at risk of falling through gaps in community services. We offer basic needs, case management, education, and employment skills development to youth and young adults that are excluded from mainstream homeless youth organizations.
Job Description
The Queer Youth Community Organizing (QYCO) Coordinatorworks with the Lasting Employment Advancement Program (LEAP) at PSKS and demonstrates a passion for: community organizing, working with underserved youth and young adult populations and LGBTQ issues. TheQYCO coordinator supports the QYCO interns throughout their 16 week internship. The main job duties include providing comprehensive support for the interns, acting as liaison between staff and interns,and fostering new and existing community partnerships.
General Duties:
- Expand upon and implement community organizing curriculum
- Foster new and existing community partnerships
- Assist in tracking grant stipulated outcomes
- Contribute to and update social media sites for QYCO
- Organize and prioritize intern work assignments and ongoing duties
- Provide general organizational support, as needed
- Support QYCO interns in:
•Developing and performing community needs assessments
•Outreach in the queer homeless youth community
•Developing a project, event, workshop, and/or community resource
Required Skills:
- Excellent oral, written and social media communication skills
- Budgeting and time management skills
- Self-motivated, able to work independently and in groups
- Comfortable working with youth experiencing homelessness
- Awareness and understanding of LGBTQ community needs and underserved community needs
Desired Skills:
- Experience working with community organizations and/or non-profit organizations
- Experience working with the LGBTQ community
- Experience working with people experiencing homelessness

Time Commitment:
Both the weekly schedule and overall length of the commitment of the Queer Youth Community Organizing Coordinator are flexible. 20 hours per week, with flexibility. 4 months is required, though, 5 to 6 months commitment is preferred.
