World Book Day 2016 – advance notice - two weeks today! This annual celebration of reading and books will be Thursday 3 March and a several activities are planned. Drop Everything and Read in the morning for 15 minutes. Stop the clocks and pick up a book, or a magazine, or an Ebook and enjoy reading.

Our big event is the visit by author Claire McFall, winner of The Scottish Children’s Book Awards 2014, whose books are very popular and which will be on sale all that week. During lunchtime, a ‘Pop-Up’ Café is planned in the library, in which you can enjoy Books and Buns, during Book Wars. More information soon, but make a note of the date & event: ‘Pop-Up library café’, buy buns (50p each) and enjoy Book Wars, whilst munching your buns! All two weeks today.

S2 Pupil Council Can the S2 pupil council please meet in the meeting room (G54) on Friday 19th of February during period 2. Pupils should report to class to register first and then make their way to the meeting. Thanks (KS)

S1/S2 Cookery Club Cookery Club will run this Thursday from 3.20pm to 4.20pm, please make sure you sign up in the HE department before Thursday. It will cost £1.00 and you should bring a tub. (KA)

FAO – S3 Students - Elgin Rotary Youth Leadership Award Are you interested in developing your leadership skills? The Elgin Rotary Youth Leadership award is an exciting programme for young people currently in S3 and is open to students from Elgin Academy, Elgin High School, Lossiemouth High School and Gordonstoun. The programme takes place over the course of two days in June 2016 and is held at Kinloss Barracks. The course involves activities which are designed to challenge candidates both mentally and physically and to develop their leadership skills. Students will participate in a variety of group tasks using the facilities of the base (includingthe assault course and Laser range) and will be led by Army personnel. Participants will be expected to be fully involved. There will also be workshop sessions on leadership led by a variety of presenters Not only will it further develop your leadership skills but is an exciting addition to your personal statement for future applications to employment, further or higher education.

If you are interested in attending this, please collect an information sheet and application form from your Guidance Teacher or Mrs Grant (G21). Applications should be returned to Mrs Grant no later than the 29th February 2016. (KJG)

Art & Design / Photography (S4/5/6): Practical study sessions will be starting after the long weekend. Monday to Thursday after school 3.20 – 4.30 for all levels. Mrs Templeton will also be available on Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes for anyone requiring support with their written work. Work experience applications The web site is now up and running again, therefore anyone who plans to go out on a placement of any description must see Mrs Bowley as soon as possible to apply for the placement online via Workit. No pupil can go out on a placement without applying and gaining the placement via this process. (LB)
