Article I Name:

The name of this organization shall be ISUkulele Club at Iowa State University.

Article II Purpose:

●To unite people with a similar interest in the ukulele

●To provide positive motivation, support, and constructive feedback

●To learn, practice,and share technique and talent in a safe environment

●To share our passion with Iowa State University students and people within the Ames community

Article III Statement of Compliance:

●ISUkulele Club abides by and supports established Iowa State University policies, State and Federal Laws and follows local ordinances and regulations. ISUkulele Club agrees to annually complete President’s Training, Treasurer’s Training and Adviser Training (if required).

Article IV Non-Discrimination Statement:

●Iowa State University and ISUkulele Club do not discriminate on the basis of genetic information, pregnancy, physical or mental disability, race, ethnicity, sex, color, religion, national origin, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or status as a U.S Veteran.

Article V Membership:

●Membership shall be open to all students, faculty, and staff at Iowa State University as well as any non-ISU persons. Students must be in good standing in order to join ISUkulele Club.

Article VI: Risk Management:

The role of the risk management officer is to [a] help minimize potential risks for club activities, [b] recommend risk management policies or procedures to (name of student organization), [c] to submit documentation to ISU’s Risk Management Office and [d] to ensure that Iowa State University policies are followed at all of the organization’s events and [e] to ensure that proper waivers and background checks are on file with Risk Management for events (if applicable).

Article VII Officers:

Officer duties:

President:

●Presides over and mediatescabinet meetings

●Guides club meetings

●Presents ideas of themed weeks to Vice President. The President and Vice President should mutually agree upon the final idea in order for themed week idea to be preformed.

Vice President:

●Performs all duties of the president in the event they are unavailable or otherwise unable to perform their duties.

●Agrees upon themed weeks with the President.

Treasurer:

●Keeps a record of finances for the club.

●Invests time to understand financial topics made important to ISUkulele Club.

●Find funding from Iowa State University or other organizations and maintain/use in an ethical manner.

●Working with the Membership Chair to increase member volume with advertisements.

Risk Manager:

●All duties set forth in “Article VI: Risk Management” should be conducted by the Vice President of the ISUkulele Club.

Membership Chair:

●Authorizes new members onto the stuorg.iastate.edu website.

●Will control ISUkulele Club’s representation at ClubFest.

This includes:

○Coordinates members’ schedules in order to have representation during the event.

○Making sure that there is always a member present at the ISUkulele Club’s booth, especially to start and take down the booth.

○Will add all new names and emails from ClubFest into the club’s subscription service.

●Creates posters and other paper-based media to distribute and raise awareness of the club. Communicates with Treasurer to understand the costs involved with advertising ISUkulele Club.

●Works with Social Media Chair to increase awareness of the club.

Social Media Chair:

  • Advise members of the ISUkulele Club’s Facebook page of upcoming meetings.
  • Accepts requests for membership of the Facebook page.
  • Makes an effort to publicize our club to encourage more people to join.
  • Represents the club on social media. Adds content on social media about ISUkulele Club, like photos and videos.
  • Encourages members and non-members to write posts on Facebook, tweet, Instagram pictures, or post on any other social networking site about the ISUkulele Club in a positive light.
  • If the Social Media Chair has a proposition to add more social media sites about the ISUkulele Club, they can propose the idea to the other officers at a scheduled executive meeting.

Officer Terms of Service:

●For all officers, a term shall be one academic year following their election.

●If an officer is elected as a replacement they will only be in office for the remainder of the previous officer’s term.

Method of Election/Replacement of officers:

●Members running for a position must preform a 1-2 minute speech, which will include their aspirations for that said position and why they are running for that said position.

●All officers shall be elected by secret show of hands. This includes those selected as replacement officers in the event of a vacancy.

○The President will not be included in this vote. If the vote is a tie, the Vice President will become the deciding vote.

●Only members who have attended at least twomeetings shall be allowed to vote in elections. This includes the meeting of the election.

●A member running for positions other than President or Vice President must be present for at least two meeting before having the ability to run for any of the included position.

●A member running for the position of President or Vice President must have experience in having one or more officer positions to gain eligibility.

○This can be waived by a 2/3 vote by the club. Discussion can take place if need be.

●If the member that is running is not present for elections, this member should contact the President or Vice President immediately. The member this is running for any position can arrange for another member to read their 1-2 minute speech. If this said member does not arrange for another member to read their speech, their candidacy will be terminated.

Date for Election of Officers:

●Voting shall take place at the second meeting of every semester.Both the President and the Vice President need to be present in order for the election to occur.

Impeachment/Removal of Officers:

●In the event that an officer has not adequately fulfilled their duties (e.g. missing an unreasonable amount of meetings, disrupting meetings, etc.), their impeachment shall be discussed and voted on by the other officers.

●The officer facing impeachment will not be allowed to be present during the discussion, but may be present during the final vote.

●There must be a majority 2/3 vote in order to impeach/remove an officer.

●After an officer is impeached/removed, please reference “Article VII: Method of Election/Replacement of Officers”.

The officers of this organization must meet the following requirements:

(a) Be in good standing with the university and enrolled: at least half time (six or more credit hours), if an undergraduate student (unless fewer credits are required to graduate in the spring and fall semesters) during the term of office, and at least half time (four or more credits), if a graduate level student (unless fewer credits are required in the final stages of their degree as defined by the Continuous Registration Requirement) during their term of office.

(b) Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) as stated below and meet that minimum GPA in the semester immediately prior to the election/appointment, the semester of election/appointment and semesters during the term of office. For undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, the minimum GPA is 2.00. In order for this provision to be met, at least six hours (half-time credits) must have been taken for the semester under consideration.

(c) Should attend at least 50% of meetings in order to stay in good standing with the ISUkulele Club. If the officer does not complete this requirement, please reference “Article VII: Impeachment/Removal of Officers”.

(d) Be ineligible to hold an office should the student fail to maintain the requirements as prescribed in (a), (b), and (c).

Article VIII Adviser:

●The officers shall select advisers.

●The adviser shall remain in their position for as long as they are willing and able while they are at Iowa State University.

●The officers shall discuss impeachment if they feel the need to discuss it. The adviser shall be impeached by a 2/3 vote of the officers. The adviser may speak or be present at the discussion and final vote if they wish.

●In the event of a vacancy, the officers shall select a replacement adviser.

Duties:

●The adviser will have the responsibility to sign any formal paperwork for the club and also ensure that the club conforms to the standards set forth by Iowa State University and the Student Activity Center.

Article IX Finances:

●No dues shall exist.

●All monies belonging to this organization shall be deposited and disbursed through a bank account established for this organization at the Campus Organizations Accounting Office and/or approved institution/office (must receive authorization via Campus Organizations Accounting Office). All funds must be deposited within 48 hours after collection. The Adviser to this organization must approve and sign each expenditure before payment.

Article X:

●Any amendments to this constitution will be first suggested and discussed by the officers.

●Amendments shall be brought to members by the officers and voted on by the general membership. Any amendment must receive a 2/3 vote of the general membership to be ratified.

●Amended or ratified constitutions should be submitted within 10 days to Student Activities Center for approval.
