This Week’s Stewardship Reflection
The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard is one that startles, centuries after Jesus told it. Those who worked in the vineyard only part of the day, perhaps just one hour, get paid as much as those who laboured the whole day long. The parable, however, is not so much about the workers as it is about the owner of the vineyard. The owner paid all the workers everything they had agreed upon. But in his generosity, he paid many of them more than was required.
In the same way, God is more than just, He is merciful. In His mercy and generosity, He gives all who turn to Him eternal life in heaven, both to those who serve Him all their lives and those who respond to Him a short time before death. Our response to this merciful and generous God should be one of thankfulness and a commitment to offer a portion of the time, talent and treasure He has entrusted to us.
Talking to the Lord
I live through the day and do my daily chores, I kneel by my bed at night and talk to the Lord
I thank Him for the sunshine and the friendly smiles, I share with Him a list I have mentally compiled
I tell Him of the goodness others have shown to me, I ask Him to look after them and their families
I tell Him about those who are in need of help, I ask Him to show me how I can help them myself
I tell Him I will look for the best in those I meet, whether I meet them in church or upon the street
I tell Him I will try to be more mild and meek, I will try to love my enemy and turn the other cheek
I tell Him where I might have gone astray, I promise that I will mend my ways
I tell him of the troubles on earth down here below, but most of all, I tell Him how much I love Him so.

H.O.P.E.
An important meeting is scheduled for the planning of our Labre House Dinner Project next Sunday, September 25th, at our Parish Centre immediately following Mass. The Benedict Labre House was established in 1952 as a day centre for the homeless. Members of H.O.P.E. wish to contribute to their mission by setting up a Meal Team this fall. We are inviting you to assist in any way in this 3-part project:
1) Friday, Sept. 30th, volunteers are needed to help shop for the ingredients and supplies
2) Saturday, Oct. 1st, volunteers are needed to help our cook with preparation of the meal
3) Sunday, Oct. 2nd, drivers and servers are needed to set tables, serve the meal and clean-up at Labre House.
For more info or to volunteer, please see Cynthia Hansen, or e-mail .
REGISTRATIONS FOR SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION
Registration forms for the sacraments of First Communion and/or Confirmation will be made available this morning after Mass. The final date for submitting registrations and required documents will be next SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25TH, after 9:30AM MASS. / MEETING – CHANGES TO THE LITURGY PRAYERS
All our liturgical ministers and those involved in our Sunday liturgies, i.e Choir, Lectors, E.O. Ministers of Communion, Catechists, Sacristans, & Ministers of Hospitality, are strongly encouraged to attend Mass and a special meeting, both to take place at St. Brendan’s Parish on Tuesday, September 27th, beginning 7:00PM. We will be looking at the changes being made to the prayers we say and sing at Mass. These changes take effect the first Sunday of Advent and these changes involve all ministers. Please make it a priority to attend.
GENERAL ASSEMBLY
There will be a joint parish assembly with both St. Aloysius and St. Brendan’s parishioners to be held on Saturday, October 8th, 2011, beginning at 10:00AM in St. Brendan’s Parish Hall, located at 5740 15th Ave. Everyone is strongly urged to attend, as the discussion will address the future of both parish communities. Please remember that one loses the right to complain about decisions made if one chooses not to participate in these discussions being held.
