No. 80/10 CADET SNCO and JNCO COURSES (26/28 Feb 10)
1. Cadet Senior and Junior NCO residential courses will be held at RAF St Mawgan from 1800 hours on Fri 26 Feb 10 to 1700 hours on Sun 28 Feb 10. Unit commanders must ensure that those nominated are willing and able to attend the course, if selected. The Senior Course will be limited to a maximum of 12 students, the Junior to a maximum of 24.
2. Nomination Criteria. Candidates for the Senior course must have passed the Senior Cadet Exam and successfully completed the Junior NCO course. The Junior NCO course is for newly promoted Corporals. It will not deliver basic leadership training to qualify for BTEC requirements – candidates for this course should already exceed that standard. (Contact Flt Lt Newcombe for details of a BTEC leadership course).
3. Eligibility Policy. In accordance with Wing and Regional policy the following criteria apply:
Senior. This course is for Flight Sergeants and Sergeants who have developed, having previously attended a junior course.
i. Cadets nominated should normally be aged 16 or older.
ii. They must have passed the senior cadet exam.
NB. Those Flight Sergeants being considered for appointment as a Cadet Warrant Officer are required, by Wing policy, to have attended a senior course within the last two years. Those being so considered who attended a course prior to Feb 2008 should be nominated to attend the senior course for refresher training.
Junior. This course is for Corporals but higher ranks will be accepted as an exception before attending the senior course.
i. Cadets nominated must have passed the leading cadet exam.
4. Preparation. Cadets attending must meet current ATC standards with regard to their personal appearance, including uniform, shoes and standard of haircut and style. Full Joining Instructions will be issued by e-mail to the Unit Cdr and the cadet.
5. Those attending the SNCO Course will be required to sit an exam on arrival on the topics included in the junior course. Any cadet that fails the exam or is not adequately prepared runs the risk of being returned to their unit.
6. Course fees and completed ACF 13s are to be forwarded to WHQ with the nomination forms. One cheque may be forwarded for both JNCO and SNCO courses. Failure to do so will result in your nominations being rejected.
7. Unit Commanders are to submit nominations to WHQ by Friday 5 Feb 10. Nominees are to be listed in priority order. The date of the latest promotion is now also required to be shown on the form. The Wing Database is checked to ensure that nominees meet the criteria listed above. It is therefore mandatory that initials and dates of birth are listed. It is essential that unit cdrs ensure that each nominee is able to attend prior to submission of the pro forma.
8. Cost. The course fee of £7.50 is to cover the cost of messing, soft drinks and stationery. This fee is to accompany the nomination form with ACF 13s.
9. Units will be advised by Fri 12 Feb 10 of those selected to attend. Refunds of course fees will be made for those who are not selected.
Staff
10. Directing Staff. The Distaff and Syndicate Directors have been sent an invitation to attend, only those who have confirmed their attendance will have accommodation and meals booked.
11. Observers. The development of cadet NCOs is crucial to the success of each Sqn. It is important that each Sqn has at least one member of staff who is familiar with current practises; furthermore, newly appointed staff should be encouraged to attend. If you wish to observe please contact the relevant Course Director by 5 Feb 10.
