Lockdown Procedure:

For intruders, drug dog searches, and/or threats to personal safety.

I. Inform your building administrator immediately of any intruder/threat.

II. Building administrator (or his designee if the administrator is out of the building) should:

a. call 911 (exception-drug dog searches...etc.)

b. Initiate the lockdown procedure by use of the public address system or the two-way radios or cell phones. We will announce "This is a lockdown..." followed by specific instructions (turn off lights, get out of line of sight...etc.). Teachers are to lock their doors and remain in the classroom with the students in either case. Teachers are to visually sweep the hallways for students as they are locking their doors. If students are in the hallway the teacher is to instruct them to come to their room until the lockdown is over. The announcement made during this time will include instructions for students to go to the nearest classroom.

c. The lockdown will end ONLY when an administrator unlocks your room and informs you directly that the procedure/emergency is over. Any further instructions would be given to you at that time. The only exception to this would be in the case of drug-dog searches. The announcement would be made over the intercom that the search is over and teachers may then unlock their doors and carry on as usual with class.

III. Substitute teachers would follow these procedures:

a. During drug dog or other searchers the administrator will lock the doors and inform the substitute of the situation.

b. In the case of a specific threat (intruder...etc.) the substitute will follow instructions as given over the intercom. They do not have the ability to lock their doors but will be required to turn off the lights and move out of the line of sight of any doors, windows...etc.

IV. Maintenance personnel will be responsible for locking all exterior doors to the building.
