Course Description
This course prepares students to act in leadership and peer support roles by assisting junior students in class during a placement. Students will develop skills in communication, interpersonal relations, teamwork, and teaching techniques. Students will also examine group dynamics to learn the value of diversity within groups and communities. A strong element of this course deals with personal growth, through reflection on leadership activities.
Objectives for Leadership and Peer Support
· To help students learn how to influence people or situations in positive ways
· To help students improve their interpersonal skills
· To help students improve their individual area(s) of weakness

Some of these dates may change and other dates may be added. You must discuss these dates with your Mentor, to schedule yourself to be absent these days.

Engagement with the course
You are expected to know when your assignments are due and what they entail (i.e. to know what components you must complete and hand in).
An overview of each assignment will be given in-class so you know what is expected. If you are not present for the overview or you do not understand the assignment it is the student’s responsibility to find the info needed from the teacher or a friend.
Please note that all assignments are worth something so therefore all assignments are important and should be given the full attention and effort they require to achieve a mark of a level four.
Work Ethic
I expect that you will try your best, that you will do all your work and that you will do it well. I hold high expectations for my students.
Attendance
You are expected to attend every class during the specified times at lunch hour, as well as every class you have in your peer leadership placement.
Note**When you attend class at lunch you do not attend your placement that day
Late or Missed Assignments
You must speak to your teacher in advance of due dates if you cannot hand the assignment in on the designated date due. You must have a valid reason (i.e. medical note, or parental note) otherwise you will be docked late marks (5 percent for the first day and 2 percent everyday thereafter).
If you are late, your second opportunity to hand in the assignment is the first day you are back in class. If you do not hand in your work then, your opportunity is given everyday forward from that date. Whether the assignment can be handed in after the second opportunity is given, is at the discretion of the teacher.
