Job Title:Counsellor andTelephone Support Advisor – Bereavement Service
Hours:22.5 hours per week
Accountable to:Head of Family Support Service and Care Director, St Richard’s Hospice
Responsible to:Senior Counsellor
Job Summary:This post is commissioned by NHS Worcestershire and is part of a bereavement service for South Worcestershire. The post holder will provide a counselling service and bereavement telephone support service to the South Worcestershire community. Supporting, signposting and linking bereaved individuals and families to the most appropriate existing services. The post holder will work closely with the wider team to deliver this service.
Overall Aims
To provide counselling for bereaved individuals and provide an effective telephoneadvice service to Health and Social Care professionals, bereaved individuals and families within South Worcestershire, who are dealing with emotional and psychological problems as a consequence of loss and grief.
The post holder will assess callers and signpost individuals and referring onas appropriate.
Main responsibilities
- To hold and managea caseload of bereaved individuals who are dealing with emotional and psychological problems as a result of their loss.
- To provide advice and signposting, to Health and Social Care Professionals.
- To facilitate a telephone support helpline for bereaved individuals and families living in South Worcestershire.
- To assess and then appropriately signpost the bereaved/ professional to theBereavement Website andother statutory and non statutory agencies to enable them to access appropriate support.
- To assess and then signpost the bereaved according to their need to a variety of organizations and support services.
- To be involved where appropriate, in the development, implementation and evaluation of bereavement care service provision for South Worcestershire.
- To maintain accurate and comprehensive written and computerised records with respect to client/family interventions in line with St Richard’s Hospice policy and procedure and BACP guidelines.
- To regularly attend supervision and to maintain confidentiality in accordance with St Richard’s Hospice policy and procedure.
- To undertake and provide evidence of professional development.
- Report regularly to line manager progress / shortfall in service, identifying problem areas.
- Attend meetings relevant to own work and responsibility.
- To work alongside wider team to provide effective Bereavement support.

- Attend annual IPR with Line Manager and fulfil agreed personal development programme.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in line with Data Information Protection Law.
- Consistently demonstrate a high level of commitment to professional development (both clinical and educational)
- Membership of BACP or other appropriate professional body
- Knowledge and commitment to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy
- To comply with all policies and procedures of St. Richard’s Hospice including confidentiality, Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, Safeguarding and Information Governance.
