Description:How to use PrintKey 2000 v5.10

PrintKey-Pro is a screen capture program that can capture the screen or any part of it with the press of the Print Screen key (or any other key you configure).

You can adjust the captured picture's brightness, contrast, colour balance, size, colour invert, or convert to greyscale or black and white.

Pictures can be edited, using the built-in image editors and printed or saved in multiple formats such as JPG, JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF, TIF and PCX. You can also insert text and free hand draw on the picture.

You can capture the full screen or just the active window, the client area, or any rectangular or circular area with or without the cursor.

You can preview the picture, add the date, user info, and any text you choose before printing.

  1. You can launch PrintKey 2000 from the lower right system tray (bottom right hand corner) while you are viewing the screen you want to capture. Right click the hand icon and select Open.

  1. A new window opens with its own toolbar.


Load: Loads image files (bmp, gif, jpg etc), the small arrow on the right shows a list of previously loaded files for quick access.

Save: saves the current image in the format you choose.

Paste: Pastes the image from the clipboard to the working area of PrintKey 2000.

Copy: Copies the current image to the clipboard.

Edit: Opens the standard picture editor to crop, resize etc.

Rectangle: Shows the full desktop and allows you to select a n area for loading into the working space of PrintKey 2000. Right click to change the rectangle's shape.

Object: Shows the full desktop and allows selection of an object eg toolbar, status bar, icons.

On/Off clock: Starts or stops the Auto desktop capture function. This is set up in the Options menu and captures shots of the screen at pre determined intervals.

Printer: Opens the print setup where you can select the printer and choose paper size.

Print: Prints the image shown on the screen.

  1. What you’ll find in the File Menu:

Refresh / Refreshes the entire screen
Minimize / Closes PrintKey 2000 main screen
Suspend / Disables PrintKey 2000
Copy picture to clipboard / Copies captured area to clipboard
Paste picture from clipboard
/ Pastes capture from clipboard into Printkey 2000
Save the picture / Saves the picture in a picture format
Load picture / Loads a formatted picture
Edit the picture / Allows you to edit(resize, crop)
Get rectangular area / Drag the cross hairs to define the area you want
Get object / Allows selection of an object eg toolbar, status bar, icons
Print the picture / Prints the picture
Get picture from printKey / The main screen of PrintKey is captured
Clean up registry from old versions / Removes previous Printkey 2000 entries
Exit / Exits PrintKey 2000

Define Hotkeys / Select keys to capture screen windows
Define Footer Text / Can add time and date to footer
Define Delay for rectangle / Select a time to delay rectangle appearing
Auto Capture Delay (Timer) / Select a time to capture automatically
Close after Printing / If selected PrintKey will close after printing
Direct Print / Will print screen directly
Hide icon from System Tray / Removes the icon from the system tray

Printing - Underneath the Printer Options tab, you can select the paper orientation, picture alignment, and other printer settings. The Selected Printer dialog at the bottom of the window allows you to choose which printer to send the file to. Once you have looked over your image and chosen a printer, click the big Print button in the upper right corner of the window.

A step-by-step example
To capture an image launch PrintKey
Select Rectangle from the toolbar (your cursor turns into a crosshair)
Click and drag the crosshair diagonally across the opening screen to capture it
Release the mouse
Select Copy from the toolbar
Open the document you wish to paste the copied picture into.
Place the curser where you want the picture to appear
Go to Edit > paste

It’s trickier to capture a drop down menu as these disappear when you open PrintKey 2000.
The procedure is:
Open the document that has the drop down menu associated
Launch PrintKey
 Go to the Options menu and select Define delay for get rectangle
Choose a time delay eg 5 secs
Select Rectangle from the toolbar
You now have 5 secs to action the drop down menu
When the 5 sec delay has elapsed, a crosshair will appear instead of the cursor
Click and drag a rectangle around the drop down menu
Select Copy
Open the document you want to paste the drop down menu in
Edit > paste /
