  1. Election of Vice Chair (Action)
Nominations for Vice Chair of the English Language Arts/English Language Development Subject Matter Committee (ELA/ELD SMC) will be accepted and an election conducted.
  1. Establish Goals for 2012 (Information/Action)
Proposed Goals for 2012
  1. Begin preparatory work for the update of the English Language Arts/English Language Development Framework (ELA/ELD Framework) including:
  1. Review timeline and the Curriculum Framework and Evaluation Criteria Committee (CFCC) application recommended to the State Board of Education (SBE).
  1. Attend each of the four Focus Group meetings in May/June 2012 (at least one committee member present).
  1. Recruit and recommend to the SBE members for the CFCC.
  1. Review information from the CDE Panel of Experts about the update, revision, and alignment of the state's current English Language Development (ELD) standards to the CCSS for English Language Arts.
  1. Review the report of the ELA/ELD Focus Group meetingsand recommend to the SBE guidelines for the CFCC revision of the ELA/ELD Framework.
  1. CommonCoreState Standards for English Language Arts and Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science and Technical Subjects (CCSS for ELA) and the ELD Standards (Information)
  1. Highlights of the key developments and content shifts in the CCSS for ELA
A brief overview highlighting the organization of the CCSS for ELA (Attachment 1) and some critical content shifts (Attachment 2) will be provided by Curriculum Frameworks and Instructional Resources Division (CFIRD) staff.
  1. Timeline and update on the development process of the ELD standards
Karen Cadiero-Kapland, Director of the English Learner Support Division, will provide an update on the timeline (Attachment 3) and development of the ELD standards.
  1. The English Language Arts/English Language Development Framework for California Public Schools, Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve (ELA/ELD Framework), 2014 Revision (Information)
  1. Timeline, Development Process, and CFCC Application for the Revision of the ELA/ELD Framework
A review of the timeline, development process, and CFCC application (Attachment 4 will be distributed at the meeting) for the revision of the ELA/ELD Framework and the IQC’s role in the process will be provided by CFIRD staff.
