VOCABULARY
LESSON PLAN SEPT 20 – 2011 The student will become familiar with 10 new vocabulary words and through the activities – have a better understanding of life roles.
Warm-Up: Students will list 8 career choices they believe are options for them and what education they believe is required. Next, students will list 8 career choices that may be not impossible to achieve but percentage wise, it may be difficult. Also list what prior training, etc. do they believe is a requirement.

Student to log on and search the internet for information on Warren Graves. Based on the video you just viewed – find some information on Warren Graves – life’s work, etc. Sometimes we know more about people upon their death than we do in life.
Create a WORD document and save the document naming it “Warren Graves Bio – today’s date and your name”. Save the document. After researching Warren Graves, type some information about Warren Graves which you think his family and friends would think was important. Type at least 3 paragraphs.
Once finished, on the same page, type two to three paragraphs introducing yourself as of today plus then DREAM a little. Complete the rest of the report pretending you had experienced and achieved different things. How would you like the report on your life to be presented to others?
Final Assignment
Students will sign onto the class website and practice activities of their choice (hangman, word search, rags to riches, etc.) related to Objective 1.00. They will paste the results of the activities as they complete each one into their “Warren Graves” word document.

Biography
Warren Lee Graves was born in Chico, California on November 22, 1929 to Harold and Ella Graves. He was the youngest of three children. He graduated from Lincoln High School, Seattle Washington in 1949. He attended University of Washington for one year before joining the United States Air Force in 1951 and served his country through December 1954.On April 7, 1956, he married Dian Rae Eckern. In November 1961, they adopted their first child, Kirk Eaton Graves. In July 1964, they brought home daughter, Dara Lee Graves. And in August 1968, they chose their third child, Teresa Ray Graves. In 1978, Warren attended University of Redlands and received a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration.
With a deep interest in electronics and a good sense of mechanical and logical abilities, he held positions at University of California Lawrence Laboratory as a Principal Electronic Technician; Lockheed Missiles & Space as a Laboratory Analyst in Research; Fairchild Instruments as a Designer; and Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) as an Electronic Specialist.
Warren was an active member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Mountain View, CA for 26 years. He was a vestry member, managed the printing of bulletins, served on the Organ Committee and as Folk Music Group Director, and was faithfully involved in prison ministry.
Beginning at a very young age, Warren developed a love of photography. He continued that passion throughout his lifetime and chronicled his many travels over the years. Upon retiring in 1991, he and his wife relocated to Georgetown, CA where they built their dream log home. They soon joined the El Dorado Sams RV group and spent much of their days creating friendships while traveling.
Upon discovery of Warren’s autobiography he had written as part of his undergraduate studies, he summed up his life best.
“It seems that my life has been lived in increments: the farm, the town, the city, the Air Force, and the married life. Each one stands out as an important developmental period that in most respects I would not want to repeat in exactly the same say: There would be a lot of things I would do differently the second time. I also realize that reliving the undesirable situations just to correct my errors is fortunately impossible, and not even worth the time to consider.
My purpose on this earth is to be human, not superhuman, to be an example of myself, not an example of what I might have been, and to expect the least from my family and friends, not the most.”
