Opening Song:“Holy, Holy, Holy”

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee:

Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty, God in three Persons, blessèd Trinity.

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee, casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;

cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee, which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide Thee, though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see,

only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee, perfect in power, in love, and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! All Thy works shall praise Thy Name, in earth, and sky, and sea;

Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty, God in three Persons, blessèd Trinity.

Announcements

Fr. Brian or Fr. Don will point out noteworthy events. Announcement reels play on the screen before and after the service.

Following the announcements, we take time to share our stories of “normal Christian behavior”, that is, sharing Jesus with others. We will also send out volunteers who will conduct a service at Silvergate Assisted Living Facility.

Prayer for Silvergate Volunteers (together)

O God, You have baptized us by one Spirit into one Body. Help us as we extend the Body of Christ to our family at Silvergate. Let us love them as we love ourselves. Send Your Word and Your love into this place where You’ve planted us, and anoint these servants today to speak Your words and be Your Hands. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty God, to You all hearts are open, all desires known, and from You no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of Your Holy Spirit that we may perfectly love You, and worthily magnify Your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Song of Praise: “Here I am to Worship”

Light of the world, you stepped down into darkness, opened my eyes let me see

Beauty that made this heart adore You, hope of a life spent with You.

So here I am to worship, here I am to bow down, here I am to say that You’re my God

You’re altogether lovely, altogether worthy, altogether wonderful to me.

King of all days, oh so highly exalted, glorious in Heaven above

Humbly You came to the earth You created all for love’s sake became poor.

The Collect of the Day

Celebrant The Lord be with you.

People And with your spirit.

CelebrantLet us pray.

Grant, O merciful God, that Your Church, being gathered together in unity by Your Holy Spirit, may show forth Your power among all peoples, to the glory of Your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.Amen.

Scripture Lessons

The Bible is at the heart of our worship, because in it we read and understand the very words of God. Every word in the Bible has come from God and is vitally important so that we can know His heart and His truth. Each week during our service, we read a section of the Old Testament, a Psalm, a section from the New Testament, and a reading from the Gospels. If you do not have your own Bible, we would like to give you one as a free gift – please speak to a clergy member or an usher.

Old Testament Lesson: Isaiah 51:1-6

“Listen to me, all who hope for deliverance—all who seek theLord! Consider the rock from which you were cut, the quarry from which you were mined. 2Yes, think about Abraham, your ancestor, and Sarah, who gave birth to your nation. Abraham was only one man when I called him.But when I blessed him, he became a great nation.”3TheLordwill comfort Israelagain and have pity on her ruins. Her desert will blossom like Eden, her barren wilderness like the garden of theLord. Joy and gladness will be found there. Songs of thanksgiving will fill the air. 4“Listen to me, my people.Hear me, Israel, for my law will be proclaimed, and my justice will become a light to the nations. 5My mercy and justice are coming soon.My salvation is on the way. My strong arm will bring justice to the nations. All distant lands will look to meand wait in hope for my powerful arm. 6Look up to the skies above, and gaze down on the earth below. For the skies will disappear like smoke, and the earth will wear out like a piece of clothing. The people of the earth will die like flies, but my salvation lasts forever. My righteous rule will never end! The Word of the Lord.

Psalm138
1I give you thanks, OLord, with all my heart; I will sing your praises before the gods.
2I bow before your holy Temple as I worship.

I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness;

for your promises are backedby all the honor of your name.
3As soon as I pray, you answer me;you encourage me by giving me strength.

4Every king in all the earth will thank you,Lord, for all of them will hear your words.
5Yes, they will sing about theLord’s ways, for the glory of theLordis very great.
6Though theLordis great, he cares for the humble, but he keeps his distance from the proud.

7Though I am surrounded by troubles, you will protect me from the anger of my enemies.
You reach out your hand, and the power of your right hand saves me.
8TheLordwill work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, OLord, endures forever.
Don’t abandon me, for you made me.

Epistle Lesson: Romans 11:25-36

25I want you to understand this mystery, dear brothers and sisters,so that you will not feel proud about yourselves. Some of the people of Israel have hard hearts, but this will last only until the full number of Gentiles comes to Christ.26And so all Israel will be saved. As the Scriptures say, “The one who rescues will come from Jerusalem, and he will turn Israelaway from ungodliness. 27And this is my covenant with them, that I will take away their sins.” 28Many of the people of Israel are now enemies of the Good News, and this benefits you Gentiles. Yet they are still the people he loves because he chose their ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.29For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn.30Once, you Gentiles were rebels against God, but when the people of Israel rebelled against him, God was merciful to you instead.31Now they are the rebels, and God’s mercy has come to you so that they, too, will sharein God’s mercy.32For God has imprisoned everyone in disobedience so he could have mercy on everyone. 33Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways! 34For who can know theLord’s thoughts?Who knows enough to give him advice? 35And who has given him so muchthat he needs to pay it back? 36For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen. The Word of the Lord.

Glorify Thy Name, glorify Thy Name, glorify Thy Name in all the earth

Deacon The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St. Matthew.

PeopleGlory to you, Lord Christ.

Gospel: Matthew 16:13-20

13When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples,“Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14“Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” 15Then he asked them,“But who do you say I am?” 16Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17Jesus replied,“You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being.18Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’),and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hellwill not conquer it.19And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbidon earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permiton earth will be permitted in heaven.” 20Then he sternly warned the disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah. The Gospel of the Lord.

PeoplePraise to You, Lord Christ.

The Sermon

Nicene Creed

Let us confess our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed:

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through Him all things were made. For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered death and was buried. On the third day He rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the Right Hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son, Who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, Who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Prayers of the People

This is a time for group prayer as well as personal prayers. Please prayerfully respond to the leader with the words in bold type. And please add your own prayers of thanksgiving and intercession either silently or aloud when invited to do so.

Let us pray for the whole state of Christ’s Church and the world. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

Help us to fulfill Your great commission; making disciples of all nations; teaching them to obey all that You have commanded. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

Give grace, heavenly Father, to all Bishops, Priests, and Deacons, and especially to Foley Beach, our Archbishop; Keith Andrews, our Bishop; Fr. Brian and Fr. Don, our Priests; Dee Renner, our Deacon; and Gerry Teplansky, our Seminarian, that by their life and teaching, they may proclaim Your true and life-giving Word, and rightly administer Your holy Sacraments. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

We ask You to rule the hearts of all who govern us—for our Nation and its leaders. May they administer justice, govern wisely, and strive for the welfare and peace of the whole world. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

We humbly ask You, gracious Lord, to comfort and strengthen all those who, in this earthly life are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

I invite you to add your own thanksgivings or requests at this time.

(A longer pause is taken so that personal prayers may be said, either silently or aloud)

We bless Your holy Name for all your servants who departed this life in Your faith and fear, praying You would grant us grace to follow their good examples, that with them we might partake in Your heavenly kingdom. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

The Deacon concludes with the following prayer

Grant these our prayers, O Father, for Jesus Christ’s sake, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen.

The Confession and Absolution of Sin

Deacon We pray to you also for the forgiveness of our sins.

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against You in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of Your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in Your will, and walk in Your ways, to the glory of Your Name. Amen.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, Who in His great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and with true faith turn to Him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
