Date & sign /
Equipment used / Pupils & YB teacher / Moderate / The area should be clean, dry and free from any harmful objects. YB teacher should check floor before each class. Any harmful objects should be removed.
Tarpaulin will be used as a floor covering which should ensure area is clean and free from harmful objects.
Clothing & personal effects / Pupils & YB teacher / Moderate / All children should be in bare feet (unless medical reason prevents this) in which case they should wear rubber soled PE pumps.
Clothing should be suitable for the activity e.g. loose. Children should not wear jewellery.
YogaBugs activity / Pupils and YB teacher / Moderate / Teacher and children should do a 5 minute gentle warm up prior to main part of class.
Pupils should receive clear instruction on how to adopt different postures and the teacher should demonstrate each posture in a clear and controlled way. The teacher should observe for correct alignment of their bodies and be alert to dangerous practice.
YogaBugs teacher / Pupils & YB Teacher / Moderate / Teacher should be appropriately qualified and should plan the class to suit the age range and ability of the pupils.
Teacher should possess enhanced CRB check and be familiar with child protection and safe guarding policy.
Lost children/Abduction / Pupils / Moderate / The activity is taking place in an open space and consequently there is potential for children to wander off.
The risk is reasonably low as parents/guardians will not leave their children at the activity, but will remain with their children throughout to supervise.
In addition, there will be two teachers on duty at all times who can also keep an eye out for children wandering off.
Sunburn / Pupils & YB teacher / Moderate / Dependant on weather - this is less of a risk for half hour YogaBugs classes, but poses more of a potential hazard for the hour long Yoga’d Up classes taking place in the middle of the day.
Where necessary teacher and children should wear appropriate sunscreen.
Consider relocating to shadier location, if appropriate/feasible.
Dehydration / Pupils & YB Teacher / Moderate / As with the above this is weather dependant.
Children and teacher should take care to drink at regular intervals to remain hydrated throughout.
Insect bites/Bee stings/Other first aid / Pupils & YB Teacher / Moderate / YB teachers will have contact details for the organisers should a situation arise.
If the situation requires more immediate attention, then intervention from the emergency services will be sought.
Parents/Guardians will be best placed to make the decision as to what level of intervention they consider appropriate.
Slipping/Tripping / Pupils & YB Teacher / Moderate / The floor covering (tarpaulin) has been chosen to minimise the chance of this. The children will be bare foot and therefore should have sufficient grip on the surface.
Falling into swimming pool /open water / Pupils & YB Teacher / Moderate / Reassurance has already been sought from the organisers that the location of the activity is sited sufficiently far from the pool(s) that this should pose only a very low risk.
