2017-2018

Chagrin Valley Figure Skating Club Mission:

The Chagrin Valley Figure Skating Club’s mission is to provide a positive and supportive environment for figure skaters, their coaches and families by ensuring opportunities to learn and develop, not just as skaters, but as well rounded individuals and friends on and off the ice. The club is run in a fiscally responsible fashion that ensures the longevity of the club and provides consistent ice time at a reasonable price.

Why join the Chagrin Valley Figure Skating Club?

Our most popular question! Membership in the Chagrin Valley Figure Skating Club (CVFSC) provides friendship, support, and unity to skaters that are participating in a very individual sport. Figure skaters primarily compete, practice and take lessons as individuals, often there is very little interaction and teamwork with other figure skaters. CVFSC is a place to find support for your skater, regardless of their age and skating level. As a club we offer social events during the year for skaters to get together, attending Disney on Ice, bon fires, summer parties, etc. CVFSC also hosts an ice show for skaters to perform locally without the pressure of competition and judges. At some point in a skater’s career, membership in a figure skating club is a requirement for competition and testing, per USFSA policies. Joining a figure skating club is a formal commitment made to the competitive sport of figure skating, similar to leaving the recreational soccer league and joining a traveling or elite level team. Additionally, joining together as a club, allows us the opportunity to reserve ice time for the skaters during the skating season and offer a discounted price to committed skaters. CVFSC reserves ice time for the entire year to secure consistent skating time for figure skaters at favorable times.

What is “freestyle ice time” and how is the Club Ice different from Pond freestyle ice?

This is a very confusing point for many people, so you are not alone! Freestyle ice is ice that is available only for figure skaters to practice and take lessons on. As a skater progresses with their skills, practicing during public ice is not safe, so specific ice set aside only for figure skaters is necessary. Here is the confusing part, the Pond offers figure skaters freestyle ice time and the CVFSC offers Club ice for figure skaters. Since we are 2 separate businesses, there are 2 separate policies for payment. Pond freestyle time often moves around during the busy hockey season, whereas, CVFSC ice time is consistent during the entire skating season. CVFSC ice time is open to members and non-members, however there is a discount offered to members.

What is a Junior Membership?

A Junior Member is transitioning from the Learn to Skate program into a more competitive and committed level of figure skating. This membership is offered to FIRST YEAR club members, per the United States Figure Skating Association. At Chagrin Valley Figure Skating Club (CVFSC) Junior Members are required to pay only a minimal membership fee of $80 for the skating year. Junior members are welcome to participate in all club sponsored events, skate during club ice times, and pay for club ice according to our member walk on fees or if interested, purchase an ice package.

Whenis Club Ice?

The CVFSC has reserved ice time for the skaters from September 6, 2017 until May 6, 2018 on Wednesday 4:10-5:10pm and Sunday 4:10-5:10pm. As a junior member you are welcome to skate during Club ice when it fits your needs without a consistent commitment, if you prefer. Pond freestyle time is available for off season skating or also during the skating season at a variety of times.

How much does it cost to skate on Club ice?

CVFSC pays for the reserved Club ice time directly to the Pond through the support of our membership and collection of fees by the skaters on the ice. Payment for Club ice is collected by a CVFSC ice monitor, who is a parent volunteer, responsible for collecting money and checking in skaters. Payment is not made at the Pond desk nor can you use a Pond freestyle card to enter Club ice. We are a separate business, so we have a separate payment system.

As a Junior member of the Club, you are given an option for paying to skate during the club ice sessions:

OPTION 1: Pay as you enter the club ice according to the member walk on rates. This option offers a junior member to flexibility to pay for only the ice time that they are using. When paying for ice, you may use either cash or check; we do not accept credit cards. The ice monitor will accept your money per time, or you may have the convenient option of purchasing a punch card directly from the Club. We do not offer a discount when purchasing a punch card, it is only a convenience offered to pay for multiple sessions at one time. The punch cards are kept on file with the ice monitor for skaters to use as they enter the ice.

Member Walk on fees:30 minutes - $1260 minutes - $1790 minutes - $22

OPTION 2: Purchasing an ice package is required of our full members. It is available, if desired, for Junior Members. Your commitment to entering the ice on a more consistent basis offers you financial savings.

ICE PACKAGES: We offer skaters 2 ice package options:

45 Hours of Ice……………………..$675

Cost of ice $15.00 per hour

30 Hours of Ice……………………..$480

Cost of ice $16.00 per hour

The Chagrin Valley Figure Skating Club’s mission is to provide a positive and supportive environment for figure skaters, their coaches and families by ensuring opportunities to learn and develop, not just as skaters, but as well rounded individuals and friends on and off the ice. The club is run in a fiscally responsible fashion that ensures the longevity of the club and provides consistent ice time at a reasonable price.

  1. Ice/Music Monitoring Volunteer Requirement: 5 hours for all full members

Recognizing that the CVFSC is a non-profit club focused on our mission the following is proposed:

-Each member’s family is responsible to help support the club’s mission by volunteering to help support the clubs mission statement and goals.

-Volunteering to cover Ice and Music Monitor roles is required for proper management of club ice time with the goals of safety and financial needs of the club.

-Each full skating member is responsible for covering ice/music monitoring duties for 5 hours. Hours are scheduled in advance via Sign up Genius website link sent out by the Board. There is no formal requirement for Junior, Associate, or Collegiate Members; however we do appreciate your support to assist during monitoring and club sponsored events.

3. Fundraising: The Board continues to support the ultimate goal of NO individual fundraising requirements. The club will promote team fundraising efforts through the ice shows, skater recognition dinner, blossom time water stop and any other reasonable opportunities that present at the Pond during the year. However, please be advised, if by February 2018, the Board determines that a Pond ice contract short fall is going to occur due to unforeseen circumstances, the Board will be required to place a MANDATORY fundraising requirement up to $150.00 on all full members (junior, collegiate, associate members excluded) to share in the unpaid expenses. The proposed individual fundraising activity will be in the spring selling the Lottery Raffle Tickets. If instituted by the Board, members will be notified by 2/15/18. The individual fundraising requirement will need to be paid in full, either through raffle ticket sales or paid by the individual by the end of March, for the funds to be available for our final ice payments to the Pond.

4.Ice Show: All members in good standing are eligible to participate in the ice show without additional fees.

5.Walk on Rates: *available to full members after completion of ice contract hours

Member/Associate/Collegiate/Junior: 30 minutes = $12 60 minutes = $17 90 minutes = $22

Non-payment or late payment jeopardizes the member’s ability to use Club ice and participate in Club activities. This will also jeopardize their standing and prevent them from testing or competing, per USFSA. Late payments will result in a $20.00 late fee assessment per month. Delinquencies extending beyond 30 days will result in the member’s name reported to USFSA as a member not in good standing.

7. The Club has a NON-REFUNDABLE policy for all membership fees and ice packages. Unused skating time on punch cards or ice contracts will not be refunded at the end of the season. If a skater is moving out of the area or if a medical excuse is presented to the Board which describes an injury that prevents any future return to skating for the remainder of the season, upon approval of the Board, a refund for the unused portion of the ice contract will be considered. The Membership fee is NOT refundable, under any circumstance or excuse, however, USFSA membership is transferrable to another club if desired.

8. Changing Ice Contract Levels: It is not permitted for skaters to reduce their ice package at any time. Prior to October 1, 2017 skaters may apply the cost of an ice contract towards an upgrade to a higher ice contract at the current pricing. Following October 1, 2017, skaters are not allowed to change their level. After completion of the pre-purchased ice contract, skaters will need to pay walk on membership ice fees as presented above.

9. Punch cards will be sold to all skaters entering club ice without an ice package, including non-members, junior members, associate members, and collegiate members. Punch cards are purchased from the ice monitor during club ice sessions. Punch cards will also be sold to skaters that have used pre-paid ice contract. CHAGRIN VALLEY CLUB ICE RULES OUTLINED BY USFSA

  • STANDING AND TALKING ON THE ICE IS NEVER PERMITTED. SKATERS MUST LEAVE THE ICE TO SOCIALIZE ~ NO EXCUSES. Coaches working with skaters should talk close to the boards and avoid talking in the center rink areas.
  • Skaters must leave the ice to talk to someone off the ice, even if for a brief time.
  • It is important for everyone’s safety that all skaters stay aware of other skaters on the ice. Try to anticipate their patterns as you decide your own pattern, remembering the skater wearing the yellow vest, performing their program has the right away, followed by the skater in a lesson.
  • If you are a less experienced skater, please be extra careful to stay aware of other skaters and to look ahead of where you are skating to see what others are doing or are about to do, especially when entering the ice.
  • If you are in a lesson, your coach will assist you in making sure you are not in way of the program skater.
  • If you are an experienced skater, please be patient and polite with the less experienced skaters. Remember – you were new to freestyles at one time, too.
  • Please be understanding and polite if someone gets in your way, it is not intentional. Remember to look both ways before leaving the railing or skating across the ice.
  • Keep moving while on the ice, as it is dangerous for both you and other skaters to stand still during a session. It is especially important not to stop in the middle of the ice or any of the jumping corners.
