Scholarship Application Information Sheet
2016-17
- The Greater Kansas City Chapter of The Links, Incorporated has been in existence for more than 60 years and is dedicated to helping African American students. Each year scholarships are offered to talented and motivated college bound seniors.
- This years’ application process is electronic and applications may be submitted from December 26, 2016 to February 20, 2017.
- The eligibility to apply and application requirements are as follows:
- Students are eligible to apply if they are:
- African American or of African American descent,
- Are not related in any way to a member of The Links organization
- Currently enrolled in a high school in Missouri or Kansas as a graduating senior and completed the first semester
- Have a 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Information required for the application are:
- Cumulative Grade Point Average
- Highest ACT or SAT Score
- 10 Most Significant High School Extracurricular, Employment or Community Service Involvement Activities
- Honors and Achievements (Freshman through Senior Year)
- Essay, no more than 500 words, answering the question ‘How would you solve the problems of violence in the Black community, as it pertains to Black on Black crime or police brutality? ’
- 2 References (sent by those writing them to )
- The name, address and phone numbers of the 2 references.
- Applicant Intended College and Major
- The application deadline is February 20, 2017
- Students MUST have all of the required information with them prior to starting the application process
- Once the application is initiated information CANNOT be saved to return to it later
- All sections of the application will be used during the scoring process, whether required or not.
- Incomplete applications will not be scored; Applications or emails related to applications will not be accepted beyond the deadline and will be considered incomplete.

- Using a laptop or tablet will result in an error and having to resubmit the application on a desktop computer
- Under the ‘Scholarship Application’ tab click on ‘High School Scholarship Application’
- Official high school transcripts and official ACT/SAT scores should be available electronically andemailed at the time of application
