Procedure for allocating funds to Clubs, Societies and Student Groups:
In furthering our charitable objectives, the Students' Union allocate funding to students organised in Clubs, Societies and single-activity student groups. We do so fairly, openly, and following clear criteria.
***Funding is allocated in the following way***
Sports Clubs: When clubs register for the first time, the SU allocates funds to enable activity to take place for the duration of their first year of operation. On an annual basis club costs are set and communicated to Club leaders as part of the SUs normal budgeting process and in line with the criteria set out below.
Societies: When societies register for the first time, the SU allocates funds to enable activity to take place for the duration of their first year of operation. Thereafter, societies have the opportunity to request funding on annual basis and funding is allocated in line with the criteria set out below.
Single activity: Individuals and groups of students are able to request ad-hoc single-activity funding and funding is allocated on a case by case basis in line with the criteria set out below.
***Funding is allocated using the following criteria***
- Does the activity fall within the law, our charitable objectives, within our Bye Laws, policies and regulations, and within the club/societies stated objectives?
- How many students will be involved or impacted by the proposed funding?
- How diverse are the students who will be involved or impacted by the proposed funding?
- To what extent will the proposed funding meet the aims of our strategy?
- What is in place to ensure the funds will be spent legally and appropriately?
- How can the panel be sure that the SU funds are the appropriate way to fund the proposed activity?
- To what extent does the proposed activity meet the Union Test?
***Funding is allocated by the following people*** The Student Activities and Participation Manager, one Student Activities coordinator, and the VP Activities & Participation are empowered to consider funding applications and allocate funding within an envelope allocated by the Trustee Board. The annual budget for the SU, including the envelope of funding for sport, societies and other activities is allocated by the Trustee Board on an annual basis.
