SCHOOL BOARD PROCEEDINGS--REGULAR MEETING

FEBRUARY 13TH, 2018

The Board of Education of the Wilmot School District #54-7 met in their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 13th, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. in the school library.

Members Present: Remund, Ebben, Green, Heinje,Huff, Jurgens, Lutkemeier

Others in Attendance: Supt./Prin. Hulscher, Prin. Schmidt, Stacey DeBoer, Cindy Argo, Julie Nelson, Sara Osterloh

Pres. Remundconvened the Board for its regular session by leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

ACTION NO. 18-052

Motion by Heinje and second byLutkemeier to approve the agenda with the following changes:

approval of resignation and addition of Executive Session for personnel. Motion carried as all members voted aye.

No conflicts of interest were disclosed.

ACTION NO. 18-053

Motion by Lutkemeier and second byJurgens to approve the minutes of the January 10th, 2018 regular meeting. Motion carried as all members voted aye.

ACTION NO. 18-054

Motion by Green and second byEbben to approve the financial statements as presented. Motion carried as all members voted aye.

ACTION NO. 18-055

Motion by Lutkemeier and second by Heinje to issue a promissory note to the general fund in the amount of $150,000 at 0% interest. The amount is to be loaned to the special education fund to assist in paying special education expenditures and for cash flow purposes. The loan is 0% interest for a term of 24-months. Motion carried as all members voted aye.

A time was held for public input.

Legislative issues were reviewed.

Heinje will be the school representative to attend the Board of Equalization meeting on March 19th at 7:00 p.m.

ASBSD legislative day will be on February 20th in Pierre.

A discussion was held on co-op possibilities. At this time, none will be pursued. A public meeting will be set up to address how to increase participation numbers in athletics and extra-curricular activities.

The first reading of the proposed class rank policy was held.

The first reading of the college visitation policy was held.

ACTION NO. 18-056

Motion byLutkemeier and second byJurgens to approve the consent agenda, which includes the following:

  • Approval of bills (as listed below)
  • Approval of open enrollment for a junior, sixth grader, fifth grader and kindergartener from Sisseton School District
  • Approval of the hiring of LaNae Chamley as a special education teacher at a daily rate of $209.55 for 20-25 days
  • Approval of a three year contract for Cal Nygaard as drivers education teacher for $26.50 (2018), $27.00 (2019), and $27.50 (2020)
  • Approval to amend the school calendar changing April 16th to an in-service day for teachers to attend the TIE conference. No school will be held that day.
  • Approval to issue administrative contracts to Larry Hulscher, Superintendent and Stacey DeBoer, Business Manager for 2018-2019
  • Approval of resignation of Mike Schmidt as elementary principal/athletic director effective at the end of the 17-18 school year with thanks and appreciation
  • Thank you to ASBSD for the AED they donated

The following bid was received for the dish room remodel project:

  • Cash Wa Distributing: $24,012.21

An equipment grant has been applied for to help assist with the cost.

ACTION NO. 18-057

Motion by Lutkemeier and second by Ebben to approve the dish room remodel bid from Cash Wa Distributing pending approval of the equipment grant from the state. Motion carried as all members voted aye.

Supt. Hulscher reported on the following:

  • Graduation speaker will be Jerry Jurgens
  • School Board recognition week is February 19-23
  • Wilmot cracker barrel on February 17th
  • Congratulations on student achievements

The Sweet 16 basketball tournament format was reviewed.

The next regular school board meeting will be on Monday, March 12th, 2018 at 7:00 p.m.

ACTION NO. 18-058

Motion by Jurgens and second by Green that the board enter into Executive Session for personnel issuespursuant to SDCL 1-25-2(1). Motion carried as all members voted aye. 6:11 p.m.

Pres. Remunddeclared the board out of Executive Session and reconvened into regular session. 6:22 p.m.
