Volunteering is great because at the end of the day it makes me happy to know that I’ve made somebody else’s life or somebody else’s day better.

Volunteering helped me develop my communication skills.

I get satisfaction because I know that I am helping someone.

I enjoy it as well, it’s good.

Volunteering is great.

I like helping people out.

We’re students in the Northern Territory, and we’re all volunteers.

It definitely helps me as a person to grow, develop more skills.

It’s fantastic.

We’re part of the Aspire program, a four-year scholarship that raises students’ aspirations to go on to study at University.

It helps Northern Territory students from different backgrounds to achieve their best results at school, and one part of the Aspire program is getting out into the community and volunteering.

My name is Tyson, I’m from Alice Springs.

I worked in the thrift shop at the Salvation Army.

I wanted to volunteer there because I thought it was a good chance to you know, kind of try something new, help people out.

Watching people walk away with a smile on their face is always good for me.

Over the course of the two weeks I worked there, my job was to receive the donations and sort them into categories, whether it be clothes or books.

I got a lot out of helping at the Salvation Army in Alice Springs.

It helped me develop a friendlier approach towards people, it also allowed me to develop a perspective on the reality of other… of how other people’s lives are, whether it be they don’t have enough money to afford things, or they can’t work for money so they might not have what other people take for granted.

By volunteering my time there it really helped me develop as a person, it gave me better communication skills and it gave me insight into other people reality and how it differs from my own.

I’m Alex, I’m from Nhulunboy, Gove Peninsula in the Northern Territory.

I’m involved in the surf lifesaving, the Gove Peninsula Surf Lifesaving Club.

I am a qualified surf life saver, so out on the beach I do patrols and we’re protecting the community from dangers in the water or outside of the water, so making sure they are safe when they are going for a swim.

I get a lot out of life saving, it definitely helps me as a person to grow, develop more skills..your CPR and your water safety and stuff, so skills you can use throughout life and it’s just really, really great, really handy to have.

I also get a lot of friendships out of the club it’s a really close knit club.

We definitely sponsor a lot of things, we have all sorts of events down at the surf club, it’s a great thing for the community.

I also volunteer at the local radio station in Gove, Gove FM, we do a lot of stuff there, it’s a great opportunity actually, I did work experience there and I got asked to go back and I’d do my own show. It’s a bit of fun too, get on there and play some music, and people seem to appreciate it.

They tune into my show and I just learnt to be a better communicator I think, it’s a good skill to be able to talk on air and have the confidence to do that.

Volunteering helps students develop skills and confidence.

I volunteered at the Salvo’s shop in Darwin.

I helped with customer service as well as tidying up the shop.

It was fun because you got to see all the cheerful customers and having the company of the employees.Volunteering is great.

My name is Jodavid and I’m from TennantCreek.

I volunteered at Vinnie’s in Tennant creek.

My role at Vinnie’s was to clean the shelves, tidy them up and assist the customers.

I think it is important because Tennant Creek has a lot of disadvantaged people, and Vinnie’s is there to support them.

I liked helping there; it was quite a lot of fun.

I helped someone new to Australia with their English.

I taught her how to sound out the words so she could communicate with other people and making new friends.

Yeah, I enjoyed it because helping people out is great.

My name is Savannah and I live in Alice Springs.

I volunteered as an umpire and a helper of Net Set Go, for the Alice Springs Netball Association.

I think it is good for the community because it’s good for the kids during Net Set Go.

The kids can learn how to play a sport and how to play it well.

I enjoy it aswell, so if other kids can enjoy it that’s nice, it’s good.
