Bellringer / Pick up Scope magazine on the stool and do Grammar gone Gaga p. 2 & 3 inside your notebook under bell ringers.
Method/Activities / Discuss the homophones and check answers.
Pass out spelling words and complete spelling activity over words.
If time discuss compare/contrast from “Beatle Mania”

Bellringer / Pick up Presents vs. Presence handout from Scope and complete for a grade.
Method/Activities / Using the article “School Uniforms: Awesome – or Awful?” in Scope to write a perfect essay on p. 22-23.
Discussion of what is a debate and essay.
Read the article and complete the Yes/No chart on p. 23 inside your notebook.
Vocabulary / Debate, counterclaim, transition, argument, evidence, claim, credible source
Assessment / Discussion of evidence to support sides used in the article.
Modifications / ECE using T chart for evidence to write an essay.
Day of Week / Wednesday – Nov. 15
I Can Statement / W 8.1 I can choose a side of the argument and identify reasons that support my choice.
Bellringer / Pick up Get Comfortable with Commas handout from Scope and complete.
Method/Activities / Discussion and correct bell ringer on commas.
Using On Demand graphic organizer have students draw this inside their notebook and label the parts to a 5 paragraph essay.
Connect the On Demand organizer to how to Write a Persuasive Essay from Scope magazine using article on p. 22-23.
Students will use write a persuasive essay handouts following Steps 1 -7.

Method/Activities / Discuss bell ringer and make corrections is needed.
Read directions on how to put together your essay using handout from Scope.
Discuss of Great Transitions handout to use in essay.
Students will write their 1st draft inside their notebooks.
