EMAILS for Senators
One of the most common barriers to learning is hunger. Please support SB5696 concerning Breakfast After the Bell programs. There are 400 high-risk schools in Washington – that is 17 percent of our schools. Passing the Breakfast After the Bell bill and adding this program to schools will help 25,000 students and could leverage over $20 million in federal funding. Help our kids be successful. Please pass SB5696.
Serving breakfast in the cafeteria before the school day starts presents many obstacles for kids and families. Those who rely on district transportation to get to school miss this opportunity and may arrive at school hungry instead of ready to learn. Moving breakfast after the bell makes it possible for more students, many who really need it, to access breakfast. Please pass SB5696 and make Breakfast After the Bell a reality.

URGENT MESSAGE 2/23/17 – Ways and Means Committee
SB5696 is in danger. The bill currently resides with the Ways and Means Committee and needs your help to move on in the process. A child’s success in the classroom can be negatively affected by hunger. Transportation limits like those for students who rely on district busing to get to school make breakfast programs that are held before the school day starts out of reach. As a Ways and Means Committee member you can give our kids a better chance at success. On behalf of the 25,000 students who will benefit from the Breakfast After the Bell program, we ask you to PLEASE PASS SB5696.
