Offering an opportunity to SHARE, ENCOURAGE AND COMFORT EACH OTHER

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month. ASK Congress to Take the Anti-trafficking Fight to the Next Level

WHY? The International Labor Organization estimates that there are 5.5 million child victims of trafficking. This is not just a global issue- it is a local one as well. Human trafficking has been reported in all of 50 states in the U.S. Since the first federal anti-trafficking law was passed 15 years ago, we can now do more than just respond to the consequences of human trafficking. (GFWC Legislative Action Center focused on S.178 - Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015 and it became law on June 2, 2015).

WHAT? We can take legislative action by calling on Congress to build on the progress of the last 15 years by supporting the “Business Supply Chain Transparency on Trafficking and Slavery Act of 2015 (H.R. 3226)”.

  • Prosecution:Identify and disrupt entire human trafficking networks
  • Protection:Help survivors of human trafficking get help AND stay safe
  • Prevention:Strengthen data collection to understand the scope and systems of human trafficking
  • Partnerships:Increase collaboration between survivors, federal agencies, and international organizations

The bill would require public companies with annual worldwide receipts above $100 million to include in their annual reports to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) a disclosure describing measures taken to identify and address conditions of forced labor, modern slavery, human trafficking, and the worst forms of child labor within a company’s supply chains. Importantly this legislation includes both the production of goods as well as labor and services in supply chains.

HOW? TAKE LEGISLATIVE ACTION: Send an email to (or telephone) your members of Congress and tell them that it’s time to take the anti-trafficking fight to the next level or sign the petition at: You can “Cut and Paste” the following link for the petition.

New Year’s is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one…Brad Paisley.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday with family and friends. January will be a busy time for Palomar District. We will have our semi-annual General Meeting on January 26 in Carlsbad. The CALL and Registration Form is on the Palomar District website plus Club assignments and Hostess Clubs. Our speaker will be talking about Human Trafficking.

The election for the 2016-2018 District Board will be held.

Also, most important (at least to me) is that District and Club Narratives/Statistical Forms are due from all the clubs. You will need to make 6 copies of the Narratives and 4 copies of the Statistical Forms. I will be at a table to receive these. There will be a manila folder with the club’s name on it and you can put you forms in there. By the end of the meeting, I will be giving the clubs a manila envelope with the Narratives for the club(s) they will be judging. These Narratives with results will have to be back to me by February 9. The sooner the better! By now you should have you judging committee together. Maybe you could go out to lunch so that you can ask questions. I know this is no small matter and I appreciate your willingness in doing this. May the Force be with you. There is also information on the Contests (dates due and contacts) on the District website. We have so many talented members that I am sure you can find a contest to enter. See you the 26th.
