Newly renovated Adena Internal Medicine and Specialty Clinics
Renovations have been underway in the Medical Office Building over the past several months including the newly renovated Adena Internal Medicine and Specialties Clinic located in Suite 150. This newly renovated space opened this month and includes both Adena Internal Medicine – Franklin Clinic and Adena Internal Medicine – First Capital as well as several medical specialty offices; Adena Endocrinology and Diabetes Care, Adena Infectious Disease, Adena Rheumatology, and Adena Kidney Specialists. Each clinic will operate as usual and maintain the same contact information. Let’s welcome these clinics into their new home!
Recruitment update
Dr. Tony Freeman, Surgical CMO is pleased to announce that Chris Nnoli, MD, OB GYN has signed an employment contract. Dr. Nnoli will join Adena’s OB GYN team in August of this year. He is completing his residency at Albany Medical Center in NY. Dr. Nnoli completed his Medicine training at State University of New York Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine.
Dr. Nnoli was Adena’s first recruitment candidate to stay overnight at the Carlisle building. He visited shortly after the grand opening and loved the building, hospitality and the community of Chillicothe. Dr. Nnoli and his family are very excited about relocating to Chillicothe this summer.
State Releases Opioid Prescribing Guidelines for Treatment of Acute Pain
As part of Ohio’s continued effort to curb the misuse and abuse of prescription pain medications and unintentional overdoses, the Governor’s Cabinet Opiate Action Team has adopted new opioid prescribing guidelines for the outpatient management of patients with acute pain, which is generally resolved within 12 weeks.
The guidelines urge prescribers to:
- Recommend non-opioid treatment options when possible;
- Check the Ohio Automated Rx Reporting System (OARRS) to see a patient’s other prescriptions for controlled medications;
- Prescribe only the minimum quantity of opioid pills needed, to discourage automatic refills of opioid prescriptions and reduce the number of leftover opioids that could be diverted or abused; and
- Reevaluate the patient’s prescribed opioids at certain intervals.
The prescription guidelines were developed by the Governor’s Cabinet Opiate Action Team in conjunction with clinical professional associations, providers, state licensing boards and state agencies. The guideline document is attached and can also be viewed by clicking here.
Population Health update
The Population Health Team is moving forward with the centralization of nurse navigation. Amanda Stevens from Adena Family Medicine - Jackson will relocate to the Adena Western Wellness Building on January 25th.
