Engineering Academy

Student/Parent Contract

Once accepted into the Engineering Academy at DeLand High School, students must uphold the following criteria to remain in the Academy:

1. Adhere to the Deland High School and Volusia County School’s “Code of Student Conduct”.

  • Any student who receives a Level II or higher disciplinary referral will automatically be placed on probation for the remainder of the grading period and not be allowed to attend any field trips, functions, activities, and events related to the Engineering Academy.
  • Dismissal from the academy may be automatic, depending upon the infraction.
  • Continued discipline infractions may result in removal from the Academy.

2. Maintain good attendance.

  • Absences in excess of five per quarter may result in the student being placed on probation for the remainder of the grading period.
  • Tardies in excess of five per quarter may result in the student being placed on probation for the remainder of the grading period.
  • Dismissal from the academy may result if absences or tardies are “excessive” (exceeding 15 per semester).

3. Maintain minimum overall GPA and course GPA as detailed in the Curriculum Guide.

  • If a student’s grade point average falls below any of the above expectations, the student will be placed on probation for the remainder of the grading period.
  • Failure to show academic improvement may result in removal from the Academy.
  • Any student who has a D or an F in any of their classes may not be allowed to attend any field trips, functions, activities, and events related to the Engineering Academy.

4. Adhere to the Deland High School “Academic Integrity Policy”.

  • Cheating, including plagiarism, will not be tolerated, and is grounds for immediate dismissal from the Academy.

5. Represent the Engineering Academy with a positive and respectful attitude when working and/or

volunteering in Academy-related functions.

6. Work cooperatively, independently, and respectfully when required, including field trips and off-

campus assignments.

7. Be self-disciplined and motivated to help others.

The intention for this contract is to provide expectations in order to help students succeed in this Academy. Any student who does not adhere to this contract may be removed from the Academy as determined by the Academy Instructors, Guidance Counselor, and Administration.
