Psalm 37:37

Dear Parents and Carers,

So much is happening at Nutfield I have decided to send an extra newsletter this week!

Snow

Last week I sent a Parent Mail with an attachment about Snow plans –you can see this Snow Plan on the website but do keep last week’s Parent Mail on your phone or PC if you have one. Our plans for opening and early closing (if that is judged necessary) are all on that document. If you are in any doubt there are local radio stations who advertise. I will endeavour to keep the school open but may need to make the judgment to close.

Library

Many thanks to those of you who read last week’s newsletter and have donated books for our library. We always welcome more books. We are particularly looking now for any good quality hard backed information books. Mrs Judy Dunn who comes in for assemblies is helping me tidy and reorganise the library but we would welcome a regular helper who could be in the library as small groups of children come in and select their own library books. If this sounds like something you would like to be involved in please do let me know.

School Action Group

Our School Action Group Meeting is on Thursday 12thFebruary at 2.15pm and is open to all parents. I will be discussing the new National Curriculum, Assessment changes and our School Development Plan and how it feeds in to our School’s Improvement Plan. There will as ever be an opportunity to hear from you and to answer any questions. If you are unable to make the meeting please do feel free to speak to me in the playground at any time.

Sports Update from Mr Heyburn

For the first time, Nutfield entered two teams, split by year group. To this week’s basketball tournament, a Year 5 team and a year 6 team were entered.

The Year 5 team performed admirably against teams that included players that were from the year above them, ending the tournament with two wins and two draws. The year 6 team put in some outstanding performances, losing just once to the eventual unbeaten tournament winners, finishing the tournament as runners up.

Each team awarded one player for the sportsmanship they showed throughout, with the Year 5 award going to team captain Nathan Williams and the Year 6 award to Joe Walton. Player of the tournament was given Will Jones for year 5 and Sam Luard for Year 6.

Both teams played incredibly well throughout and were a credit to the school. A parent of Nutfield quoted “you can just feel the atmosphere and excitement walking in here”. Well done to all involved!

Year 5: Gabriella Abellan, Millie Chidlow, Harry Cutler, Will Jones, Michalis Lempidakis, Joe Quevedo, Nathan Williams (c), George Young

Year 6: Alice Drawbridge, Sasha Haria, Sam Luard, Jack Lugton (c), Josh Taylor, Elliott Terry, Cassidy Tonge, Joe Walton

Staffing

Very sadly Mrs Knowles will be leaving us at the end of January. She has worked with us here at Nutfield for the past ten years and has been an invaluable member of the team. We will all miss her very much but wish her all the very best in the future. Her last day will be 29th January.

We are delighted however to have a strong team of TAs and have been able to make two very strong appointments. Mrs Bainbridge joins us as Learning Mentor and Home School Worker. She will be working on Wednesdays in class and around the school and on Thursdays and Fridays as Learning Mentor and Home School Link Worker. You will see her in the playground with me on those days, both before and after school. She will be available for you to discuss anything you want to.

The second appointment was to enable extra support for our pupils, in the form of a Pupil Progress Support TA. We have appointed Mrs Belcher, who currently works in Year 2. She will continue to work in Year 2 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays but will, in addition now work for one day a week on focused groups in classes around the school. I am sure that you like me will be very pleased to see extra support going in to our classes.
