Draw a detailed picture that shows the meaning of the word and goes with your sentence.

Study this week’s vocabulary words and definitions to look for connections between the words.
These connections might be related to the words themselves, the definitions, or a context you might use them. Try to connect at least 5 vocabulary words.
(You will have to get creative!)
EXAMPLE:
Example: submarine, magnificent, cautious, careless
Magnificent is connected to submarine because traveling on a submarine, you might see magnificent ocean views.
Submarine is connected to cautious because it is important to be cautious on a submarine, otherwise you might drown or get hurt.
Cautious is connected to careless because if you are making careless mistakes, you are not being very cautious

Instructions:
· Choose a vocabulary word to work with this week.
· Write the word in the box. Think about what this word means. Use your Treasures book or a dictionary if you need help.
· Write down a sentence explaining what this word is like to you.
o Ex. Melancholy = sad, depressed. This is like when I sometimes feel bad at the end of a vacation.
· Write down a sentence explaining what this word is NOT like (the opposite).
o Ex. Melancholy is NOT like how I feel on my birthday.
· Write down at least 2 other words that remind you of this one. Use a thesaurus if you need help.
· Write a creative, detailed sentence and draw a picture.

Vocabulary Sort Instructions
1. Look over your vocabulary words. Do you see any patterns?
2. Think about how the words are related.
3. Come up with 3 categories for the words. Categories can include:
a. Parts of Speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives)
b. Similar beginnings and endings
c. Similar spelling patterns
d. Similar definitions (relating to a similar topic)
4. Sort the words into the three categories.
5. Write a short explanation explaining why the words fit in that category.

· Find this word in Treasures and record the sentence and page number.
· Write the definition of the word in your own words. Use context clues for help and a dictionary if needed. (Do NOT copy a definition directly from the dictionary.)
· Write a sentence of your own using this word.
· Draw a detailed picture that shows the meaning of the word and goes with your sentence.
