Violators will face consequences as outlined in the student handbook.

HOMEWORK POLICY

Homework is an extension of the classroom learning process. It is one method to help students establish self-discipline and study skills. Homework also is a way to keep parents informed and involved with schoolwork. Homework will be posted on the class web page prior to the assignment. Students who fail to complete homework assignments are assigned to SaturdaySchool during the same week the assignment is due. Assignments completed in SaturdaySchool are graded for full credit. Should a student fail to attend SaturdaySchool, the assignment is due on the Monday or the next full school day of attendance for the student following SaturdaySchool with a grade reduction of 10 points. Continued failure to complete the assignment will warrant a referral to an administrator.

Reassessment Policy

The goal of any summative assessment is to assess the level of mastery on a set of performance standards. Often, students perform on some assessments better than others. Therefore, reassessment should be used as a learning opportunity and students should take more responsibility for learning. There is no minimum grade for reassessment. Full credit is the maximum grade for reassessments. The student is required to attend at least one tutorial session for reteaching prior to the reassessment. Reassessments must occur within the same nine-week marking period as the original assessment.

Make-up Work

Students who have excused absences are afforded an opportunity to complete missed work after their return to school. Students have three days for each day of absence to complete schoolwork missed due to an excused absence. Failure to complete the missed work by the designated deadline will warrant an assignment to SaturdaySchool.

Zeros

Every effort should be used to avoid issuing a student a zero. Students may be assigned detention or SaturdaySchool. Also, parents may be contacted to solicit support for work completion. Counselors and administrators should be involved if a student misses assignments on regularly. Parents must be notified in writing or via a telephone call any time a zero is issued. Teachers must document attempts to receive work from students.

SAE

The Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) is a project that is state mandated and carried out through the nation. This serves as an opportunity for the student to venture on his/her passion in learning something that really means something to them. I provide many examples in class and do not require that “mountains be moved” for this project to be a success. You may have already seen some good history and/or bad history with this assignment. I will take four grades with the progress of this project. Many students attempt to go without completing it and their grade suffers. However, some enthusiastically complete the assignments and their grade is tremendously helped out. There will be one grading period around the 9th, 18th, 27th weeks and a final grade given at the conclusion of this year. The last grade taken will include a presentation by the student and graded 50/50 with the project work. DATA is the keyword. This projects objective is to teach your student how to keep information and present it in an appropriate manner. More will be taught in class as the semester goes on; as well there are links to help on my website. Thank you so much for the work that you do.

** All students should observe ALL the rules and regulations in the Student Handbook. **

Detention: Detention will be held from 3:15-3:45 in room 801 on the assigned date(s). You should arrive promptly and have work to complete. Failure to report to detention will result in a referral to an administrator. If you have a conflict with the dates assigned, please see the instructor prior to your assigned date(s).

Late Assignments: Each student is expected to complete all assignments in the allotted time. Late assignments are penalized, minus (11) points, each day the assignment is late.

Make-up Policy: IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO OBTAIN AND COMPLETE MAKE-UP WORK. If you have an excused absence, you will be allowed the same number of days as your absence in order to make up work missed. Make-up work must be done after or before school, NOT during valuable class.

Re-do Policy: If a student turns in an assignment that receives a failing mark, the student has the opportunity to redo the assignment. The following exclusions apply: multiple-choice test and other assignments as decided at the discretion of the instructor. The student must conference with the teacher within one week after receiving the assignment. After conferencing with the instructor, the assignment will be given back to the student to redo. The assignment must be completed and returned within one week after the conference. Once the redo assignment is completed and corrected, it will be averaged with the original grade. It is the student’s responsibility to take advantage of the redo policy. At the end of the 15th week marking period, students no longer have the option to redo assignments.
