Working with Media
Google the state’s newspapers, television, and radio outlets. I search each separately.
These three links will often list the media outlets, saving time.

Go to each website and look for contact info. Some sites have the contact link at the bottom of the page. One generic “news tip email” is not enough. Get as many email and Facebook links as possible to ensure the press release is seen. I also go to staff, reporters, news team, news anchors, and management bio’s and get their information. For one site, I may have 20 contact email addresses and 10 Facebook links. Some Facebook accounts will allow you to post and add a poster. The news release goes in the email and the posters are posted on every Facebook page that it can be posted. If you can only find one email such as a news tip email-use it. Chances are better when you send to multiple emails. One reporter may not be interested, but another might. The Producer or Manager may see the email and decide to help by running the release. In one case, I may send out 150 or more emails to television, newspaper, and radio contacts.
Newsroom Staff or staff bio’s generally include their email addresses, twitters, Facebook or other social media. Collect each for your contact list. Not all will give such information.
GET THE FACEBOOK LINKS. These can also be done by right clicking to copy link address.
Facebook pages are only used to post the posters. Do not post the media release on Facebook pages.
Right Click on the Email link to get the email address. If you click on copy email address, it will save and you can paste to the information you are saving. If you click on the Email link, it will take you to a in-house email that generally does not allow files or photos to be uploaded. I do not get sports reporters, photographers, weather reporters. Only Editors, managers, reporters, ect.
On this list, use Publisher, Editor, and Composing Manager.
Write the press release using the template on CFSI letterhead, with the pertinent information regarding the case.
Emailing the Media Outlets:
I keep the outlets separate. I send one mass email to all the emails within that outlet. The email includes the copy/paste of the press release in the body asking the media outlet to please assist in getting the child’s info out.
Attach the press release file and CFSI Poster to the email.
The closing is Name, title, Center for Search and Investigations, and contact info:
