11:00 a.m. Welcome and Orientation Activities - Toni McLawhorn, Director, Career Services

11:15 a.m. Commuter Student Welcome – Becoming Engaged in Campus Life – Joe Boucher, Assistant Director, Student Activities

11:30 a.m.Safety and Security at Roanoke College – Mr. Tom Rambo, Director of Campus Safety

11:45 a.m. Information Technology at RC: What is Possible? - Ms. Terri Austin, Director of IT Client Services

12:00 p.m. Special Issues – Ms. Leah Russell, Associate Dean/Registrar

12:15 p.m. Break to get lunch and return to tables for Advisor meetings

12:30 p.m. Advisor Meetings* to include discussions of GenEd Curriculum and Academic Integrity

2:00 p.m. Education Department Advisor Meeting* for students seeking teacher licensure

2:00 p.m. Completion of Check-in, Colket Center (see list of to-do’s below)

4:00 p.m. President’s Welcome, Cregger Center (Meet a Maroon Corps leader on the sidewalk in front of Cregger at 3:30 to go as a group; if you go to Cregger on your own, look for signs in floor seating for group numbers 97, 98, and 99, which are designated for new transfer students)

6:00 p.m. Picnic Dinner, Back Quad (free meal for new students and their families)

*When you are done with your advisor meeting, please go straight to the Colket Center and make sure you have completed the following: NOTE: ALL STUDENTS must complete check-in today, or class schedules will be dropped! Do not overlook this step. All necessary stations are set up in the Colket Center for your check-in,including:

Course verification – Registrar’s Office – Wortmann Ballroom (2nd Floor)

Financial Arrangements – Business/Financial Aid Offices – Patterson (1st Floor)

Academic Advisors available – The Center for Learning & Teaching – Ballroom (2nd Floor)

Maroon Cards/vehicle registration – Campus Safety – Pickle Lounge (main floor)

Health Records – Health Services, Kime Conference Room (2nd Floor)

Computer information - Information Technology (lower level Atrium)

Finding/Testing mailbox – Mail Services(lower level)

NOTES - Other Orientation activities of possible interest to transfer commuter students:

  1. Sunday, August 27: Downtown Roanoke City Market area, 7:45-9:30pm.
  2. Monday, August 28: R House building project, Hawthorne parking lot, 10:30am-12noon
  3. Tuesday, August 29: CLASS MEETINGS – all to be held on in Massengill Auditorium
  4. Class of 2020 – 10:30-11:00am(for all students anticipating graduation Dec 2019 - August 2020)
  5. Class of 2019 – 1:30-2:00pm (for all students anticipating graduation Dec 2018- August 2019)
  6. Class of 2018 – 2:15-3:30pm (for all students anticipating graduation Dec 2017 - August 2018)
  7. Tuesday, August 29: Opening-of-School Convocation, Cregger Center, 11:30am-12:30pm. Men’s Soccer game with live music and food trucks, Kerr Stadium, 7:30-9:30pm.
  8. Friday, September 1: 3:45-4:00pm – all commuters are welcome to gather in Garrett,second floor of Colket, to go to the FOTQ together. Be there no later than 4:00!! FOTQ goes from 4-7pm and will feature the 2017 Student Activities Fair – great opportunity to learn about ways to get involved on campus outside of classes!
