Sectional Entry Procedure
Overview
The only way to qualify for the Section VI Championships (State Qualifier Meet) is by meeting the Sectional Qualifying Standards on pages 6-7. There are separate standards for Divisions I and II. Any athlete or relay that betters the “Automatic” mark listed is automatically eligible to compete in that event. An athlete or relay that meets the “Provisional” mark listed will only be eligible if they are among the selected field once the cut-down is made the weekend prior to the Sectionals.
Coaches are required to submit their qualifying athletes and relays for consideration to the Sectional Chairmen. Entries must be submitted via email.
Submission of Entries
Entries must be sent in via email using the Sectional Track Athlete Entry Form provided
Boys’ Entries – email to Paul Ksionzyk at
Girls’ Entries – email to Walt McLaughlin at

Posting of Sectional Qualifier List
The chairmen will post the full list of both automatic and provisionally qualified athletes and relays aftereach email deadline. This list will be available on the Outdoor Track page of the Section’s webpage. Coaches are responsible for checking the list and notifying the chairmen of any discrepancies. The Section web address is:
Selection of Fields for the Sectionals
1.All entries and scratches are due by 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1st.
Coaches are encouraged to scratch out all athletes and relays that will not be competing in those events. Coaches who leave athletes in events that they will not contest are taking an opportunity away from another athlete.
NOTE: Athletes may not be entered in more than four (4) individual events after2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1st. Any athlete exceeding this limit will be scratched down to four (4) events by the Chairman.
2.After entries close, the Chairman will create the final fields using the following procedure:
a.Anyone who has met the “Automatic” standard will make the field.
b.If there are less than 16 automatic entries, the chairman will take additional athletes from the Sectional lists in descending order until a field of 16 (and any ties) is created.
c.If taking a 16th athlete requires taking additional tied athletes, the chairman may create a field of 15. The chairman may not, however, create a field smaller than 15.
3.The final fields will be posted on the Section’s website by Monday June 2nd. Coaches are responsible for checking the website to determine their final qualifying athletes and relays.

Section VI Championships (State Qualifier)
Meet Information
***Inclement Weather…Possible Cancellation Tune to WGR (550) or WBEN (930)***
NO athlete(s) should be represented unless they are accompanied by the coach or faculty member from their school that is responsible for them.
Facility This year’s Qualifier Meet will be held at Strider Field Jamestown on Friday, June 6th and Saturday, June 7th. (See pages 10-11 for time schedule and order of events.) This is an 8-lane all-weather surface. All jumping events are likewise all-weather runways/aprons. Throwing circles are concrete.
Maximum 1/4” spikes may be worn. These may be either pyramids or pins (needles). No “Christmas tree” or cork-screw style spikes will be allowed.
Please do not allow your athletes to bring radios or tape players into the complex. These items prevent those trying to hear vital information from the announcer. Footballs, frisbees, and the like are similarly an inappropriate distraction from the important championship that we are holding.
Admission $4.00 each day.
Eligibility Athletes must have competed in six (6) meets prior to the Sectionals in order to be eligible to compete. Only those athletes and relays that have met the requirements of the qualifying procedure on pages 5-7 are eligible to compete in this meet.
Note:a.Relays qualify by school.
b.Relay standards must be run as a team. You may not add up individual split times.
c.Relay splits may not be used for individual entries.
Standards Sectional qualifying standards can be found on pages 6-7.
Rules We will conduct the meet using NYSPHSAA and National Federation Rules. Please be aware of the uniform and jewelry rules. They will be enforced.
Officials Officials will be assigned by the WNYT&FOA with the approval of the Sectional Chairmen.
Jury of Appeals Boys Chairman, Girls Chairman, and the Chief Judge.
Appeals See page 17 of handbook for appeal procedure.
Advancement to the State Meet We will conduct this year’s meet in two distinct divisions (I and II). The winning individual or relay in each division final will advance to the State Meet (see page 2 for date/location). Additionally, the better of the two second place finishers may qualify if they better the State Standards listed on page 12. State Standard must have been met in a championship meet or invitational (5 teams or more) beginning with the last weekend in April.
All ties to advance to the State Meet will be broken (i.e. jump-off).
Awards The top four (4) places will receive Sectional patches in each division. The winners will also receive a Sectional certificate. Award winners will be asked to report the Awards Tent.
Qualifiers to State Meet If you have an athlete qualify for the State Meet, be sure that they obtain their travel information before leaving the Qualifier Meet. The coach of each qualifying relay must go to the awards tent and present the names of their four (4) competing athletes and two (2) alternates. Only four athletes may ride the bus to the State Meet.
NOTE: The order of events at the Qualifier is not the same as at the State Meet. Be aware of this when placing your entries.
Seeding for the State Meet The Chairman may use any mark achieved in a championship meet or invitational (5 teams or more) beginning with the last weekend in April. Please make the Awards Tent aware of a better previous performance.
NOTE: League chairpersons are required to forward a copy of the complete results of their league championship to the Sectional Chairmen before the Qualifier Meet.
T-shirts Souvenir T-shirts will be available for sale to help defray the cost of the meet.
Infield Coaches or any athletes not currently competing are not allowed on the infield of the track and should remain outside of the fence surrounding the track. Sectional chairmen, their committee, officials, and other designated meet management will be the only people allowed inside of the fence.

State Championships Information
Transportation
- In 2008, Section 6 is hosting the state championship meet, therefore each school must provide transportation for their athletes.
- When Section 6 does not host the state championships, the policy is that all qualifying athletes must ride the Section VI team bus to the State Meet. Travel information is made available to all qualifiers on the day of the Sectional Qualifier Meet.
Meals Section VI will provide for meals while at the State Meet. Each school will then be billed for their athletes’ participation.
Uniforms Athletes will compete in their school uniform at the State Meet.
Admission $8.00 each day
QUALIFYING STANDARDS FOR STATES
FIRST PLACE FINISHER IN EACH EVENT
The first place finisher in each individual and relay event at the State Qualifier Meet will qualify for the State Meet in each Division.
BEST SECOND PLACE FINISHER IN EACH EVENT
The better of the two second place finishers (Division I and II) in each individual and relay event may qualify for the State Meet if they have equaled or bettered the following State Standard for that event. They must have equaled or bettered the standard in a championship meet or invitational (5 teams or more) beginning with the last weekend in April.
NOTE: League Chairpersons are required to forward a copy of their complete championship results to the Sectional Chairman prior to the Qualifier Meet. These will be used to verify all qualifying marks.
