JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title:Retail Assistant (Permanent) / Department: Retail & MerchandisingReporting to: Lord’s Shop Supervisor / Lord’s Cricket Store Manager
Dimensions of Role:
Direct reports: None
Assets:Store and Office equipment required to undertake role.
Working hours: - 35 hours per week
- Rostered within a 9:00am – 9:00pm trading day
- Rostered within a Monday to Sunday trading week
Key Purpose of Role:
Primarily, a shop floor-based role to assist with the efficient and profitable operation of the in-ground shops – the main Lord’s Shop and the Lord’s Cricket Store (at the MCC Academy during the winter month and at the Grace Gate during the summer months). Additionally, assisting with the efficient operation of all stockroom functions.
Main Tasks and Accountabilities:
Customers:
- Be visible and available to serve customers at all times
- Provide the best customer service possible to ensure maximum sales and profitability.
- Deal with any issues and complaints in an efficient and professional manner, escalating to your Supervisor if required
- Under the guidance of your Supervisor undertake the replenishment of shop displays following deliveries and dealing with residual stock storage as required.
- Ensure displays are organised, tidy, clean and attractive at all times
- Ensure all displays are regularly monitored for replenishment.
- Inform your Supervisor of any in-store signage requirements
- Under the guidance of your Supervisor assist with the smooth relocation and re-merchandising of the Cricket store - twice annually.
- Under the guidance of your Supervisor assist with the specific merchandising required for major match days across the retail estate.
- Ensure the shop floor and all displays are regularly and appropriately cleaned
- Inform your Supervisor of any requirements for carrier bags, bat covers and till and office supplies
- Under the guidance of your Supervisor undertake daily cashing up procedures
- Under the guidance of your Supervisor assist with float, tills milking and cashing up procedures on major match days
- Actively contribute to the in-ground shops operational work planning process.
- Ensure the fixtures and fittings store is organised efficiently and logically for easy of access
- Undertake, as instructed, the dispatch of all online cricket equipment and books orders in an efficient and timely manner.
- Assist in the receipt of all stock deliveries in a timely manner, replenishing shop floor displays and managing residual stockroom storage as necessary.
- Under the guidance of your Supervisor ensure all required barcodes and other labeling is produced in advance of delivery
- Immediately report all shortages, errors and damages to your Supervisor for actioning.
- Following delivery of stock and under the guidance of your Supervisor, ensure all residual stock is priced and bar-coded before storage.
- Ensure all packing/un-packing areas are kept tidy and free from rubbish.
- Under the guidance of your Supervisor help execute the layout design plans for the stockroom
Variations to Role on Major Match Days:
- Mandatory attendance at all major matches with extended hours as required
- Under the guidance of your Supervisor, assist retained casual staff undertake their duties.
- Wear agreed staff uniform as required and instructed
Health & Safety:
- At all times be responsible for the safety of yourself and others through adherence to Club (and legal) safety rules and procedures
- To be familiar with fire and evacuation procedures and to operate in any necessary or appropriate capacity as Fire Warden within the Cricket (Gift) Store and throughout the retail estate.

Skills and Qualifications, Experience, Attitudes, Behaviours and Competencies
Essential:
- Previous retail experience - within a sports retail environment
- A flexible approach to work content and hours
- Ability to communicate and converse with confidence with all types of customer
- Excellent customer service and selling skills
- Numerate and literate
- Conversant with the basics of Microsoft Office applications
- A strong interest in, and knowledge of, cricket
- Knowledge of the history of MCC and Lord’s Cricket Ground
- An appreciation of stock management processes and procedures
- A basic understanding of financial and commercial processes and procedures
