OK, by now you should realize that we race rain or shine and more often than not we find a way to beat the rain. You should always come, even if you decide not to drive in the rain. Saturday was great with an amazing number of cars in HST and a lot of competitors checking out the NEW ASPHALT. Numbers were a little less on Sunday presumably because of the weather threats. We did have some wet periods early Sunday but by race time all was great.
And you have to admit the brave souls that aren’t afraid of a little water get some fantastic photo ops!
I believe he said something about looking for that apex cone!?!
I believe there were a few that just could not resist playing in the mud! Go Bill! (Not sure if he was an intentional player)
A word on the new asphalt. This was a special track blend and extreme measures were taken to check and maintain density levels as the job was being done. The extra they laid for us in the pit areas made a huge difference and will benefit many of us in ways we can’t imagine. I am fairly certain that I fell off of my bicycle at least 6 fewer times from the decrease in gravel. If you have ever seen the first rain on a new parking lot you know how they bubble and foam. There was none of that visible anywhere. This stuff really is special! We did have some potential issues with new drop off concerns during those occasional “unplanned grass gathering adventures”. Corner workers were advised to inspect their adjacent areas and signal cars where it was safest to reenter the track. This should all be taken care of well before our May event.
