MINUTES OF THE REGULAR BOARD MEETING HELD MONDAY, AUGUST 8, 2016
The Piggott School District Board of Education met in a Regular Meeting on Monday, August 8, 2016 at 5:30 P.M. in the District Administrative Office. Members present were Jeff Benbrook, Hope Burns, Brad Dunlap, Chris Roberts and Jennifer Rahn.
The meeting was called to order at 5:30 P.M. by the President, Jeff Benbrook.
A motion was made by Brad Dunlap to approve the consent agenda. The motion passed 5 to 0.
Transportation Director, Fred Hicks, discussed the bus routes with the Board. He told them there was no place to put the 40 kids that were on thevacant bus route.
Mrs. Powell recognized Elizabeth Hobbs, Destiny Hall and Ashley Grissom on winning 9th out of 40 groups at FCCLA Nationals and Hannah Powell and Georgina Bautista for winning 1st place out of 124 teams at FBLA Nationals. The girls told the Board what it was like competing and winning.
Mr. Trout from EPM addressed the Board about the savings results for the district so far and talked about what he would like to see done in the future. He said they would be doing staff training again this year to show everyone how to override the system and to report problems to the Superintendent by emailing her and then she would email the problem to EPM to make sure it was done in a timely manner.
Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, a motion was made by Hope Burns to approve the bid from Watson Oil Company for 7000 gallons plus ultra-low sulfur dyed diesel at 1.48 per gallon. The motion passed 5 to 0.
Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, a motion was made by Brad Dunlap to approve the bid from JR Wilson for the X485 JD Mower in the amount of $500.00. The motion passed 5 to 0.
Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, a motion was made by Jennifer Rahn
to approve the bid from Clean Solutions due to service, for janitorial supplies for the 2016-2017 school year. The motion passed 5 to 0.
Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, a motion was made by Chris Roberts to approve the request for FMLA from Jessica Robertson. The motion passed 5 to 0.
Superintendent, Mrs. Powell discussed the concession stand and bleachers with the Board.
The Board discussed a house/lot that is for sale across from the High School Gym.
A motion was made by Chris Roberts to table discussion on the purchase of the house/lot that is for sale across from the High School Gym. The motion passed 5 to 0.
The Board set Monday, September 12, 2016 as the annual public meeting to be held at the Elementary Library.
Superintendent, Mrs. Powell told the Board that September 27th and October 4th are the Board training dates at the COOP and that November 17th and 29th are the Board training dates at Piggott. She told the Board that the Middle School bathrooms were complete and the stalls are about ready to go in. She said Stonebridge said the front of the Elementary would be done by Friday and Kevin Rone said they were supposed to start laying sod tomorrow at the football field.
A motion was made by Hope Burns to amend the agenda to add Item #12 Discuss hiring a bus driver. The motion passed 5 to 0.
Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, a motion was made by Jennifer Rahn to hire Debra Redford as bus driver for the 2016-2017 school year as per Board Policies and salary schedules. The motion passed 5 to 0.
Board President, Jeff Benbrook adjourned the meeting and the Board did a walkthrough of the campuses.
