SENER and Engivia complete their merger
Madrid, March 5, 2013. SENER, an engineering and technology group with global presence, and the Portuguese engineering firm Engivia have formalized their merger two years after SENER’s 100 per cent acquisition of the Portuguese company.This way, the new company SENER-Engivia emergeswith the objective of consolidating itself both in the Portuguese market and in its areas of influence.
Aguinaldo Azevedo, SENER’s Director in Lisbon, expressed his "great satisfaction at having successfully completed this process" and stated that "it certainly leads to a future full of enormous possibilities for the newly formed company.”
SENER possesses extensive experience in civil engineering in Portugal, where it has developed a wide range of projects, from the Lisbon metro expansion project to the preliminary studies, base project and technical advice during the construction of the Porto Metro.SENER has also participated in the drafting of the preliminary design of the 87 km long Lisbon-Montemor section of the High-Speed Rail lineMadrid-Lisbon, including the passage on the 11 km long bridge over the Tagus River.
In Lisbon, SENER has managed to participate in highway network expansion tenders, through the completion of the highway ‘Transmontana135 km’construction project, whose contract was awarded to the concession holder Auto Estradas XXI (formed by FCC and Soares da Costa). SENER has also participated in other works such as the expansion ofBragança municipal airport or hydrodynamic studies ofcoastal and lagoon areas in the Aveiroestuary.
For its part, Engivia has completed projects involving the construction of more than 600 kilometers of highway infrastructure, already built or under construction, both for the Portuguese administration and for the main Portuguese concession holding companies, regarding different sections in highways such as A2 (Lisboa-Algarve), A4 (Porto-Amarante), A6 (Marateca-Elvas), A7 (P. Varzim-V. Pouca de Aguiar), A11 (Apúlia-Amarante), A12 (Setúbal -Montijo), A13 (Tomar-Condeixa), A14 (Coimbra-Montemor), A16 (Lisboa-Alcabideche), A17 (Aveiro-Mª Grande), A22 (Via Longitudinal de Algarve), A23 (T. Novas-Guarda), A25 (Aveiro -V. Formoso), A28 (P. Varzim -Apúlia) and A29 (Aveiro-Porto).
In addition to road projects, Engivia has also developed railroad projects and airport runway rehabilitation or redesignprojects.
SENER opened its first facilitiesin Portugal in 1991, in the city of Lisbon. Nowadays, there are more than 60 people based in the Portuguese capital carrying out studies and projects for SENER not only in Portugal but also in countries like Mozambique, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia and Angola.
