Sharon Williams welcomed all of AASFAA’s attendees and introduced all of the 2012-2013 officers. The officers in attendance were as follows:

Sharon Williams – President

Kevin Ammons – President-Elect

Vickie Adams – Past President

Stephanie Miller – Secretary

ZitaBaree, SASFAA President-Elect and Amy Berrier, 2014 Local Arrangements Conference Chair, came by to introduce themselves and announce the SASFAA’s 2014 Conference, February 16 – 19, at Jacksonville, Florida. Amy also stated that Sharon would be serving on the 2014 Local Arrangements Committee.

Sharon then introduced the 2012-2013 Committee Chairs. The chairs in attendance were as follows:

Stephanie Miller – Special Projects and Spring Local Arrangements (shadowed by Jennifer Epperson)

Joan Waters – Photography

Deborah Byrd – Spring Program

Vickie Adams – Award, Nominations and Elections

Wanda Bass – Archives

Carol Ballard – Long Range Planning

The following topics were discussed:

  1. Fall Training
  2. Spring Conference – Registration will once again be on the web. Jeff Dennis and Nathan Basford will be coming to the conference. Mike Reynolds, SASFAA Vice President, will host a table for SASFAA’s New Aid Office Workshop.
  3. Mike Reynolds, SASFAA Vice President, will be hosting SASFAA’s New Aid Officers Workshop at Auburn in June. The cost is $675 if registered and paid by May 26th. He is inviting Admissions, Business and Financial Aid Offices to be a part of the workshop.
  4. Alabama was the first to reach its SASFAA goal of number of attendees registered for this year’s conference.
  5. Vickie Adams presented the 2013-2014 slate of candidates for AASFAA’s elected officers. She also stated that she was still open for nominations. The slate was presented as follows:

  1. Paul Mittlehimer came by to thank Vickie Adams for serving on the 2013 SASFAA Program Committee and to thank AASFAA for its commitment to SASFAA.
  2. Betty Edwards spoke about the membership goal of 246 members. She will be diligently contacting the schools to help Sharon reach her goal.
  3. Stephanie spoke about Alabama College Goal Sunday and what the membership can do to promote and help support the program. She also stated that CGS served approximately 275 families last year.
  4. Deborah Byrd, Spring Program Committee Chair, spoke about the upcoming conference. She spoke about the need for a theme and possible sessions. Possible sessions included: FSA update, FSA verification, SAP, Enrollment Management, F.A. best practices, Customer Service, Reconciliation, Compliance from Department of Ed, Consumer information from Nelnet and Violence in Schools. She stated that the program committee had not met and would most likely meet by email only to avoid expenses.
  5. Sharon asked if anyone was retiring. The names that were discussed were Pat Watkins, Charles Markle, Deborah Byrd and Melba Mauldin.
  6. Thanks were given to Sharon and Sharon gave thanks to the membership.
