Community Engagement Lead
Catchment Area: North Simcoe Muskoka
The Community Engagement lead will work closely with other network staff and other agencies to increase knowledge about hospice palliative care within the health care system and throughout the community with the goals of normalizing death, dying, caregiving and bereavement and integrating palliative care service provision.
Additionally, the Community engagement lead will have a significant role in fund development and volunteer relations at Hospice Orillia, A Division of the NSMHPCN.
Working relationships
- Works as a member and the leader of the NSMHPCN Outreach Team
- Works closely with volunteers; community leaders
- Develops close and effective relationships with community partners, agency staff, media and other communications staff
- Understands and promotes the local, provincial and national frameworks for Palliative Care
Responsibilities:
- Build relationships that mobilize community resources to create a cultural shift in regards to the normalization of death, dying, caregiving and loss and that integrates palliative care in all settings in which people live and die.
- Coordinate the work of the NSMHPCN team, hospices, palliative care providers and community members to better support people who are dying and bereaved and their families.
- Create and implement a communications plan leading to a change in societal attitudes about death and dying:
- Identify target audiences and appropriate approaches
- Evaluate the success of campaigns
- Promote Advance Care Planning (ACP)
- Identify potential partners to share the message about the importance of ACP
- Work with community partners to implement the “Speak Up” campaign across NSM
- Recruit and train speakers to promote ACP

- An organized, methodical communicator able to establish and implement an annual marketing plan
- Ability to plan events and mobilize community involvement
- Confident leader who is able to generate enthusiasm and support
- Self-directed with good organizational and time management skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills: tact and initiative are essential
- Possess sound professional judgment, initiative and innovation
Conditions of work:
- 37.5 hours, Significant evening and weekend work will be required
- Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications

Qualifications and Experience
- Strong background in communications and marketing including media relations, social media, web design and graphic design
- Experience working with, recruiting and leading teams of volunteers
- University or college degree/diploma in related discipline such as communications, media relations, journalism or community development.
- Demonstrated ability to mobilize teams to work towards common vision
- Preferred knowledge about palliative care, bereavement, health care, the North Simcoe Muskoka Communities.
- A valid Class G license, reliable vehicle and ability to work flexible hours which will include some evenings and weekends.
