To achieve the Gold Award you will be asked to evidence the implementation of a whole setting communication approach
Please demonstrate;
- The systems that have been developed to support staff induction, their CPD in Speech, Language and Communication and the impact this has on their practice for example how is adult child interaction and communicationmonitored and reviewed in daily provision.
- How well the child’s Speech,Language and Communication development is supported throughout the Transition process?
What considerations are given to parental participation at the child’s initial starting point and ultimately their progress into Pre-school, Day Nursery, Childminders’, School Nursery and School?
- Robust processes for identification of SLC needs and referral pathways.
In the Silver Award you evidenced your approach for early identification and intervention. Describe and evidence the accuracy of these approaches and demonstrate that your continued support through a differentiated curriculum and engagement with parents and key partners is impacting on the child’s progress
- How children’s individual SLC needs and views are captured and used within your setting
- Case Study : Please submit a case study of one child which you feel illustrates your understanding and experience of all the above criteria.

- When you have completed this form please send it with any additional evidence to
EELCA Submissions Panel, Early Years and Childcare, PO Box 47, Chelmsford CM1 1LX or email to
- Your setting’s submission will be assessed at the termly EELCA Award Panel meeting.
- The Panel will contact the setting to notify them of the outcome.
- If the Panel decides that the required criteria have not been fully met, the setting will be contacted and given feedback to enable them to make the required adjustments and reapply.
- If the criteria are successfully met, the Gold award will be made.
Conditions of the Award
A Gold Award is valid for two years after which it can be renewed by resubmitting the relevant award criteria.
If for any reason Essex County Council feels that the standard of practice in a setting has dropped significantly and to a point of concern, this will be discussed with the setting and if circumstances cannot be rectified Essex County Council reserves the right to withdraw the Award.
