Members out and about at races

**Sunday 29th January. Our two Canadian members, one with health problems, took part in the Robbie Burns 8K walk, Burlington. Jill wrote:- “We did it!! It was a most lovely day around zero, hot sunshine and absolutely dry road. It was perfect but most likely not the norm. Actually last year was bitterly cold and windy and a good percentage of the walkers didn't even finish.” Well done both.

**Saturday 18th February Essex Cross Country relays Hadleigh Country Park. Excellent weather for the final (for us) X-Country event this season, it started to rain just as we drove out of the car park!! PS fielded 3 women’s teams of 3, to run this (3miles per lap) very testing course. Debbie S, Beryl, Roma, Sue, Nicola M, Ruth, Nicola H, Ellena and Nicky L all had really good runs with Ruth running her lap in the fastest PS time at 28mins 31secs. Very well done all of you. It would be nice to see a men’s team next year!! Thanks to Jim, Nick and Eddie for their support.

**Sunday 26th February On beautiful spring-like morning six members took part in this fast, flat 10 mile race at Fords Dunton in aid of St Luke’s Hospice. First runner across the line finished in 57mins 28secs. Dave L was first PS in 1hr 15mins 54secs, Ruth next in 1:21:29, followed by Simon J and Rob 1:24:02, Beryl 1:26:17 and Nicola M 1:30:08. Last runner 2:24:31. Well done folks!! I hope I haven’t missed any out, it’s really difficult to spot names when they don’t show the clubs.

London Marathon Runners

We have several members running in the London Marathon this year and raising money for various charities. If your name isn’t here please let me know.

Sue Vinewrote “I’m running The Virgin London Marathon for Breast Reconstruction Awareness Charity (BRA) to help buy more specialist medical equipment for Cancer Sufferers at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford.

Nicola Maslen running for St Luke’s Hospice

Julie Price wrote

“Just to let you know that the charity I want to raise money for is called Cassies Wishing Well ( This is a very small charity and is very dear to me as Cassie is the 7 year old daughter of my friends Michelle and Matthew who live in Chelmsford. Cassie was born with a rare brain condition called ponta cerebellar hypoplasia 2 which stopped her brain developing properly when she was in her Mum's tummy.

Cassie has help with her condition from physiotherapists at "Brainwave" and an organisation called Adeli (based in Slovakia) helps her get stronger and learn to walk. This treatment is very expensive and any money raised on behalf of Cassies Wishing Well goes 100% towards paying for it. Any donations will be very much appreciated by me and I promise to train hard for the marathon.

I've set up a Virgin Just Giving page where people can make donations online Cassies Wishing Well is a small charity and all online donations are being administered by the Southend Round Table charitable trust.

Thanks!Julie”
