Job Title:Creative Therapist

Responsible to:Clinical Services Manager

Accountable to:Day Therapy Sister

Location:Little Hulton

Salary/Hours: £15,897 - £19024 pro rata

Band 3

18 hours over 4 days

Job Summary

To work within the policy framework of the Hospice in its provision of specialist palliative care, by supporting the Day Care team and ward teams in ensuring that the aims and objectives of the hospice are met.

To provide a creative therapy service to patients attending Day Care in a group setting and on a 1:1 basis as required in conjunction with the day care team.

To provide creative therapy to in-patients on a 1:1 basis who are unable to access Day Care.

To promote and encourage creativity with patients as a means of expressing and releasing feelings and emotions.

Communication Skills

  • To foster good working relationships and communicate with members of the multidisciplinary team and users of the service to ensure the delivery of high standards of care.
  • Understand the importance of listening to the patient to ensure they feel valued.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Being aware of the boundaries of your role and know how to communicate this to others
  • Be able to work in a sensitive and flexible manner
  • To participate in communication skills training as required

Organisation and Management

  • To be responsible for the planning and co-ordination of a programme of activities for Day Care patients
  • To be responsible for the ordering and storage of creative therapy materials within a fixed budget
  • To be responsible for the planning and co-ordination of a programme of activities for Day Care patients
  • To utilise staff & volunteer support systems.

Professional

  • To act in such a manner as to safeguard and promote the interests of individual patients
  • Understand the importance of communicating, reporting and recording effectively in EMIS patient record
  • To report to the Keyworker any accident or incident
  • To ensure that no act or omission on your part of within the sphere of your responsibility is detrimental to the interests/conditions or safety of patients
  • To participate in service developments
  • To perform any other duties reasonably assigned by your Line Manager.
  • To be aware of and to work in adherence to the National Standards and requirements of the Care Quality Commission

Educational and Training

  • To attend and complete mandatory training and online mandatory training
  • To participate in Performance Development review as requested by the manager
  • Maintain a professional interest in your own professional development to ensure provision of an up-to-date, evidence based creative therapy service within the organisation

Research and Audit

  • To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the creative therapy service in relation to agreed format/standards.
  • To contribute to education and research programmes as required

  • Ed Excell Diploma in Creative Therapy or BTEC Diploma in Creative Therapy or working towards this
