Key Terms- Slavery
Primary Source- source of information from the time period in first hand experience
Flog- to be beaten with a whip or stick
Branding- to have a symbol burned into skin with a hot iron
Domestic Work- work done inside the house
Overseer- someone who supervises the slaves at work
Passive Resistance- non-violent resistance to slavery…i.e. breaking tools, pretending to be blind…etc.
Slave Narrative- a story about slavery written by a slave
Abolitionist- someone who does something in an effort to stop slavery.
Plantation- large farm typically worked by slaves in the south
Atlantic Slave Trade- Entire slave trade route also known as Triangular Trade
Middle Passage- Part of the Atlantic Slave Trade from Africa to America (part slaves were on)
Fugitive Slave Law- Law allowing for capture of runaway slaves forced northerners to help return slaves and punished those who helped slaves run away.
