Article I- Name of the organization, Purpose and Non- Discriminatory Policy
Section I: The name of the organization shall be 1girl OSU Chapter of The Ohio State University
Section II: The purpose of the organization shall be to provide leadership development to girls and women in the Columbus area to help close the gender leadership gap. 1girl OSU members teach leadership skills to groups of middle school girls in pre-existing afterschool and summer sites. Through implementing these programs, the OSU members will develop important leadership skills by serving as a leader to a group of girls. The girls who go through the program will learn skills like public speaking, collaboration, and critical thinking through hands-on leadership development activities.
The organization will bring to the forefront the issue of gender leadership inequality in Columbus and the surrounding areas. By giving 1girl OSU student members the opportunity to serve in a leadership role and offering training to girls in the community, the 1girl OSU chapter will increase the number of females in Columbus who have the confidence and skills to become future leaders.
Activities and programs sponsored by this organization will keep within the organizations stated objectives.
Section III: This organization and its members shall not discriminate against any individual(s) for reasons of age, color, disability, gender identity or expression, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status.
Article II- Qualifications for Membership
Section I: Voting membership in the 1girl OSU Chapter shall be open to all currently enrolled students at The Ohio State University. Others such as faculty, alumni, professionals, etc. are encouraged to become members but as non-voting associate or honorary members.
Section II: Method of Selecting and/or Removing Members
Membership is open to anyone who wishes to become an active member. There is no application process, but all members must uphold the integrity of the 1girl organization and work hard for this organization’s purpose. All members and officers must be in good academic and judicial standing with The Ohio State University.Non OSU student members cannot vote, hold office, orbenefit in any way from University funds.
Persons obtain membership by supporting all functions, activities and programs of the organization through attending meetings and serving on committees. Voting members shall be defined as members who are currently enrolled OSU students and who are in good standing with 1girl OSU chapter and have supported the functions of the organization. A list of voting members will be maintained by the secretary of 1girl OSU Chapter.
Members must attend at least half of all general meetings every academic term except summer. If any of these requirements are not met, then he or she will be placed on a probationary period where he or she must attend at least half of the meetings the next semester. If he or she fails the probationary period then he or she will be taken off of the member list.
Section III: Types of Membership
Voting membership: All The Ohio State University in good standing with the University will be voting members of 1girl OSU Chapter.
Nonvoting Membership: All members of the organization that are not The Ohio State University students will be nonvoting members of 1girl OSU Chapter.
Article III- Organization Leadership: Titles, Terms of Office, Type of Selection, and Duties of the Leaders
Section I:Leadership Roles
President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary and shall be elected for a term of one year (Autumn, Spring, Summer semesters).
Section II: Type of Selection
For those individuals who express interest, a vote of all active members will be taken. The vote will taken through a paper ballet. Officers are selected by a majority vote. Every member will have the opportunity to vote for the officers. Elections will be held at the first meeting of the school year.
This organization will conduct business through informal processes as established by the executive officers.
Each member may choose to join one or more committees. Committee members may express interest to be put on the ballot for Committee Chair. The Committee Chair will be selected by majority vote at the first committee meeting.
In the event of a tie, one person would lead one semester, one would lead the next semester, and they will co-lead in the summer.
Section III: Selection
Officers (President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary) are selected by a majority vote. Any member who desires to be an officer needs to express interest and he or she will be put on the ballot. Only currently registered OSU students may hold office. Officers of the organization shall not be on academic or disciplinary probation. Every member will have the opportunity to vote for the officers.
Section IV: Duties for Each Officer
President: Organize, schedule and plan meetings for the club. Making sure all members are made aware of upcoming meetings via email. Make sure all committees are running smoothly and getting all jobs done. Help gain and organize the facilities in which the program will be held.
Vice President: Help President with running meetings. Also help with any problems that may come up within committees. Help gain and organize the facilities in which the program will be held.
Treasurer: In charge of all of the funds within the club.Organization, record and keeping (banking) of the money. Treasurer will also help with all fundraising.
Secretary: Will keep written documentation of important topics at every meeting. Also keep record of attendance at each meeting and event relating to the club. The Secretary must also keep a list of all active members of the 1girl OSU Chapter Club.
All of the officers will be expected to correspond with the staff members of the nonprofit organization 1girl. All officers will assist with the recruiting of students to enlarge the general body and raise campus awareness of 1girl.
Officers must fulfill their duties and responsibilities efficiently and punctually. They must work hard to uphold the integrity of 1girl. Officers are required to attend at least three fourths of all general meetings every academic term except summer.
Section V: Removal
If these requirements are not met, then he or she may be asked to step down and be a general member. A new officer will be appointed to that position by the remaining officers.
In the event that 1girl OSU Chapter officers are not fulfilling the specific duties listed above, general members have the right to question the conduct, actions, and/or work of any elected officer, advisor, committee chairperson, appointed representative or member. The 1girl OSU Chapter Executive Board has the right, if deemed necessary, to remove an executive board member who does not fulfill their specific duties. A The Ohio State University faculty advisor must be present for all removal/impeachment proceedings. The action of removal must first begin with complaints to the advisor who will then handle the proceeding steps as they see fit.
Section VI: Advisor
The OSU advisor for this organization shall be decided upon by the executive officers of the organization.
The 1girl OSU Chapter organization is required to have an advisor. Advisors of student organizations must be members of the University faculty or staff. Advisors must have monthly meetings with the treasurer and president.
Article IV- Standing Committees: Names, Purposes, and Composition
Section I: Committee Names and Duties
Fundraising Committee: members who organize fundraising events and activities. At least one fundraising event should be held each school year.
Programming Committee: members who facilitate the leadership development programming in sites throughout Columbus. The programming committee is responsible for developing relationships with community afterschool programs to deliver 1girl programming. It is expected that at least two 1girl programs will operate each school year.
Marketing and Recruitment Committee: members who spread the word about the organization and its purpose, and reach out to potential new members. It is expected that at least five new members join the organization each year. It is expected that the branding and marketing of 1girl OSU Chapter of The Ohio State University will align with the branding and marketing of the nonprofit organization 1girl. The mission and vision of the nonprofit organization 1girl shall be upheld by all marketing and public outreach of 1girl OSU Chapter of The Ohio State University.
Section II: Committee Guidelines
All meetings will be announced via the active member email list. All members should receive an email announcing meeting dates, times, and locations.
Ad hoc committees may be formed at the discretion of the President or Executive Committee to attend to any situations that may become necessary for the organization to consider.
Members select the committee they would like to join, and they may be on more than one committee. Each committee needs one designated committee chair who reports back to the general body.
All officers, excluding the president, should be a member of at least one committee. The president may choose to join one or more committees if he/she wants to.
Article V- Meetings of the Organization: Required Meetings and Their Frequency
Section I: General Meetings
Meetings will be held every two weeks. Meetings dates and times may change each semester based on the availability of the general membership. Members are expected to attend at least half of general meetings, officers are expected to attend at least three fourths of them, and advisors are expected to attend at least one during every academic term except summer. A simple majority of the voting members must be present to constitute a quorum.
Section II: Special Meetings
Special meetings may be called by the officers or general members with at least one week notice given.
Section III: Committee Meetings
Committee meetings may be scheduled based on availability of committee members. Committees may choose the frequency in which they meet.
Article VI-Method of Amending the Constitution: Proposals, Notice, and Voting Requirements
Proposed amendments should be in writing, should not be acted upon but read and discussed in the general meeting in which they are proposed, should be read and discussed again at the next general meeting (1 meeting after it was proposed), discussed a third time and then voted on in the next general meeting (2 meetings after it was proposed). Approval requires a majority vote of voting members present. The constitution should not be amended easily or frequently.
It is further understood that if this organization desires at any time in the future to change in any way the provisions of this charter, that before such action is taken, the organization will submit for approval to the Student Activities Committee and the Office of Student Involvement every detail of the desired changes to be made.
Assigning committee chairs will be a majority paper ballet from the members within that specific committee.
Article VI- Method of Dissolution of Organization
If 1girl OSU Chapter disbands then finances would be handled in this fashion: All university funds and materialsmust be returned to the university before any other assets can be give to the non-profit.If there are remaining assets after this has occurred, they should be donated to the nonprofit organization 1girl.
It is further understood that if this organization desires at any time in the future to change in any way the provisions of this charter, that before such action is taken, the organization will submit for approval to the Student Activities Committee and the Office of Student Involvement every detail of the desired changes to be made.
Article VII- Affiliation
The 1girl OSU Chapter of The Ohio State University is affiliated with the non-profit organization 1girl. The 1girl OSU Chapter of The Ohio State University will comply with all standards for student organizations provided by the non-profit 1girl; however, the 1girl OSU Chapter of The Ohio State University will not be officially advised or managed by the non-profit 1girl.
