POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Safe School Environment Person
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School diploma.
2. Excellent human relations skills and physical health to meet the performance responsibilities.
3. Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTION: To assist in all activities provided for the security and protection of
all students, staff, and property. Individual must be able to walk around facility and go up and down stairs.
TERMS OF
EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month position.
EVALUATION: Performance to be reviewed and evaluated annually in writing by the Building Principal.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for the safety and protection of every person within the school
By being alert to fire and safety hazards; theft from students, staff, and of school property; proper student identification and visitor’s pass; possession of indecent books or pictures; disturbances that interfere with classroom instruction, smoking where not permitted, damage and defacing school property; and illegal parking in school grounds.
2. Conducts inspections of district buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft,
and illegal entry.
3 Patrols areas of responsibility for loitering students; checks all student
lavatories, all empty classrooms, all doors/windows/gates to determine that they are secure, property for damage which should be immediately reported to building principal or designee; and ensures that areas which should be secure are secured.
4. Keeps alert and observes any discrepancies; presence of suspended
Students; horseplay on the part of students which may lead to more serious
Consequences; verbal altercations which may subsequently result in a fight; gambling; possession of alcohol or drugs; students cutting classes and loitering on school premises; and possession of weapons and dangerous and/or inappropriate articles.
5. Patrols school grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles; checks
cars for parking authorization; determines if vehicles are parked in restrictive areas, such as near fire hydrants, in driveways, or at bus areas; and checks exterior lighting and emergency access routes.
6. Monitors front door sign-in book and visitors/guests to building, i.e. receiving
and directing unauthorized visitors in the building for questioning, routes or detains them, and/or calls appropriate personnel for assistance, according to
emergency action plan.
7. Assists certified personnel during arrival and dismissal of students in and
around the school, i.e. loading and unloading of buses and other vehicles (taxis) transporting students to and from school at arrival, dismissal and special activities, and field trips.
8. Assists in the evacuation and control of the buildings during emergency
Evacuation or drill procedures.
9. Assists Building Principal as needed during special evening activities, such as
assembly programs, book fairs, and before and after school activities.
10. Reports any unusual conditions or malfunctioning of heating, plumbing, or
electrical systems.
11. Serves as escorts or guides at the discretion of the Building Principal.
12. Makes written reports of security violations.
13. Reports to the Building Principal or his designee at the beginning and end of each work day.
14. Other duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor. the Superintendent of Schools or his designee.
