INVOLVEMENT IN PROJECTS AND CONSULTANCIES

  • September-November, 2011. The Sentinel Site Study of the Naryn Baseline Survey to explore people’s quality of life in the Naryn province of Kyrgyzstan
August, 2011. Review of Early Grade Reading (Review of current pedagogy, materials and factors affecting early grade reading). Research Commissioned by JBS International for USAID.
May-June, 2011. Program Assessment and Recommendations based on evaluation study of USAID’s education project titled Quality Learning Project in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. By JBS International.
January-March, 2011. The baseline survey on a project Improving Access to Quality Primary Education in Hajja, Yemen by CARE International in Yemen. The baseline survey identified pre-intervention situation in the “target” schools of IAQPE and the findings of the baseline assessment will then be used as a benchmark for future interventions of the project. The research was conducted in rural areas of Yemen’s Hajja governorate.
September-December, 2010. The baseline assessment report of schools in Tajikistan and in Kyrgyzstan for Quality Learning Project (QLP) of USAID. The baseline assessment identified pre-intervention situation in the “target” schools of QLP and the findings of the baseline assessment will then be used as a benchmark for future interventions of QLP. The research looked at competencies of students from rural areas of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Gender based analysis was also conducted to identify gender differences in students’ performance.
June-August, 2010. The comparative analysis of national testing centres in four countries. The project is led by the Open Society Institute (OSI) Tajikistan, with support of the OSI Education Support Programme (ESP) and in coordination with the World Bank and Ministry of Education.
  • March, 2010. Developed framework and identified the TORs of External Review of Aga Khan Humanities Project (AKHP) of University of Central Asia. AKHP is an innovative integrated university curriculum which trains university faculty.
  • January 2-10 2010, Duishon Shamatov served as UCA Quality Assurance Faculty in the First Phase of the certificate training programme of Field-Based In-service Professional Development Programme for Secondary School Mathematics Teachers, organized by Aga Khan Education Services (AKES), Central Asia, to improve subject matter knowledge and teaching methodologies/practices.
  • September 2007 to February 2008. Educational Consultant for Aga Khan Education Service (AKES), Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
  • August-September, 2007. Evaluation Study of the Participation, Education and Knowledge Strengthening (PEAKS) project of USAID. This study aimed to identify, collect and analyze documents and other existing data from the Kyrgyz Ministry of Education, USAID, and other international organizations, in order to develop an understanding of how active learning is conceptualized among donors (PEAKS) and key stakeholders in Kyrgyzstan.
  • April 25-27, 2007. Monitored and supervised the process of forming School Development Plans (SDPs) of Aga Khan Education Service, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. The SDPs included all components of school development including faculty, curriculum, school leadership, parental involvement and school management committees, facilities and infrastructure involvement.
  • 2006. Conducted research study titled “Experiences of Primary Teacher Deployment in Pakistan” at Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development together with colleagues Rizvi, M and Siddiqui, N. The study did situational analysis to identify the major issues of teacher deployment (e.g. rural-urban divide, proportion of women teachers, proportion of qualified teachers, situation with teacher supply in earthquake affected areas of Pakistan) and offered suggestions and institutional changes.
  • 2005-2006, research titled “Hopes and Fears of Children of Kyrgyzstan” with 11 and 12 year old primary students as part of the large international comparative study conducted in various countries including Canada, Gambia, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine and UK. The study was conducted by using survey and focus group interviews, with a large number of 11 and 12 year old students from four schools in Kyrgyzstan. The aim of this study was to build up a comprehensive picture of the hopes and fears of children around personal, local and global issues.
  • January, 2000. Education Consultant for Teacher Development Project (World Bank and Ministry of Education of Tajikistan), Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Designed and conducted teacher education courses for primary and secondary teachers.
  • 1998-2000, designed and implemented intensive teacher training for teachers of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Syria at the Aga Khan University, Institute for Educational Development.
