TITLE: DC SUPERVISOR
LOCATION: 290 HUMBERLINE ETOBICOKE (Toronto), ON
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Distribution Center Supervisor is responsible for the efficient flow and control of tasks necessary for the receipt of material, storage, and shipment of product. This includes functions of receiving, material put away, picking, packing, shipping, staging, transporting, storage, and delivery.
This position is responsible for the efficient flow of material/products from the point of receipt from vendors to the shipment of products to a variety of internal and external customers.
To be successful in this role, the incumbent must have a hands-on commitment to getting the job done. He/she must demonstrate the ability employ sound judgment, work independently and work collaboratively with multiple departments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Achieve high levels of customer satisfaction through excellence in receiving, identifying, dispatching and assuring quality of goods.
2. Managing, mentoring and developing of Shipping/Receiving staff.
3. Measure and report the effectiveness of shipping/receiving activities.
4. Organize and maintain inventory and storage area.
5. Ensure shipments’ and inventory transactions’ accuracy.
6. Interface with customers to answer questions or solve problems.
7. Enforce health and safety programs in a manner that safeguards the protection of employees and promotes prompt responses to health and safety concerns or incidents.
8. Identify areas of improvement and establish innovative or adjust existing work procedures and practices.
9. Confer and coordinate activities with other departments.
10. Actively participate and support continuous improvement initiatives.
11. Duties and responsibilities may be amended from time to time in order to support efficient company operations.
Competencies and Qualifications
· Successful completion of post-secondary education in logistics, supply chain management or business administration is preferred.
· Minimum 8 years’ shipping/receiving/stockroom related experience in a manufacturing environment.
· Minimum 3 years supervisory experience.
· Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts and practices is an asset
· A strong command of the English language is required (read, write, speak).
· Strong communication skills (written and verbal) required
· Basic mathematical skills.
· Effective leadership skills with the ability to influence, mobilize and gain personal commitment and achieve results.
· Must be a team player with a strong work ethic
· Exceptional attention to detail, quality, and employee safety
· Ability to input, retrieve and analyze data
· Able to identify key issues; creatively and strategically overcome internal challenges or obstacles.
· Must be able to organize information and articulate issues to the manager and supporting departments
· Knowledge of warehouse software packages and MS Office proficiency
· Experience operating a forklift and maintaining a valid license.
· Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Working Conditions
· Travel may be required (10%)
· Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
· Lifting or moving up to 50 lbs may be required.
· Work is performed in a combination of environments.
· Will be required to wear protective equipment in designated areas such as: hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection and steel toed safety shoes.
· Overtime as required.
· Location, shifts, duties and responsibilities may be amended from time to time in order to support efficient company operations
