“I was drawn to Girls Inc. first because of the tag line; Inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold™. This simple phrase spoke to me deep down because I was once a young girl with big dreams who wanted to be all of these things. I chose to be on the board because I am a self-made Hispanic woman who worked hard to go to college and build my own business. I have learned many lessons along the way and I hope to impart my life experiences in the lives of young girls in North Texas. I believe every girl should have a chance to go to college, to not only dream big but life live big as well. As a mother of twin boys, I hope my sons will be drawn to girls who are strong, smart and bold and I am lucky to be able to be a part of developing such young women.

MaryAnn Means is the Deputy Chief of Staff for Mayor Betsy Price of Fort Worth. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degrees in public administration and human resource management.

“The work Girls Inc. does in Tarrant County has incredible impact in the lives of young women. With rampant negative and harmful messages about women in our national and global media, it is essential that we encourage girls to know their true worth. Girls Inc. helps young women discover that they have something special to contribute to their communities, and they have the power to realize their dreams. I am so proud to get to be a part of the Girls Inc. mission of ‘Inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.’”

Shivaun Palmer is the CEO & Co-Founder of Plaid for Women, Inc., a digital media company focused on women to help them become pioneers of their own lives to achieve goals, get connected and be heard. The Mission of Plaid is to provide inclusive communities and transformational connections for its members.

“I am honored to serve as a member of the board for Girls, Inc. ofTarrant County, recognized as the Outstanding Affiliate by thenational organization. What an incredible accomplishment!

As the CEO and Co-Founder of a company that provides resources tohelp women personally and professionally, having the opportunity to work with our younger generation to ensure they are giventhe tools to become strong and successful women completes thecircle for me.”
