A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of William R. "Bill" Hiler.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to William R. "Bill" Hiler, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, William R. Hiler was born on August 8, 1940, a native of Cincinnati, and longtime resident of Northern Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on January 26, 2005; and

WHEREAS, William R. Hiler was the loving son of the late Melvin and Anna Abbott Hiler; he was the devoted husband of 46 years to Billie Anderson Hiler; he was the loving father of two daughters, Amy Carrino of Erlanger and Amber Cullen of Burlington, and a son, Bill Hiler Jr. of New Albany, Indiana; he was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren; and he also leaves behind three loving sisters, Trish Hunt of Erlanger, Julie Barker of Union, and Kim Withers of Morningview, and a loving brother, Melvin "Skip" Hiler of Florence; and

WHEREAS, William R. Hiler graduated from Lloyd High School in Erlanger in 1958; he studied law enforcement at the University of Virginia, Thomas More College, Eastern Kentucky University, the Cincinnati Homicide School, and the United States Department of Narcotics; he was especially proud of having graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and he later served as president of the FBI National Academy Associates chapter in Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, William R. Hiler began his law enforcement career in 1963 as a patrolman for Elsmere Police Chief Bob Gordon, who also served as his mentor and friend; in 1970, he was named police chief of Elsmere, a position he diligently served until 1995; and during this time, he served as president of the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police and as chairman of the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council; and

WHEREAS, in 1995, William R. Hiler was the recipient of the Melvin Shein Award for the Advancement of Kentucky Law Enforcement; he was named the VFW Patrolman of the Year in 1985; he was named an Outstanding Citizen of Erlanger in 1967, and he also was named the Policeman of the Year for the Kenton/Boone Fraternal Order of Police; and

WHEREAS, William R. Hiler was a devout member of Erlanger Baptist Church, where his funeral also was held on January 31, 2005, with burial in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Erlanger; and

WHEREAS, the passing of William R. "Bill" Hiler has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of William R. "Bill" Hiler, and extends to his family and friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of William R. "Bill" Hiler.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Billie Anderson Hiler, 2651 St. Charles Circle, Union, Kentucky 41091.
